Ive decided that despite being very grateful for the hardwork of C4eva and the JF crew (and all others who have contributed to the fw modding scene) that I think im going to give up on worrying about a LIVE banning.

The time LT for Samsung comes out, it will be even closer to that usual November time when the ban hammer falls again, and as I dont use LIVE a huge amount I see it as something im worrying about too much.

I have not connected my 360 to LIVE since the banhammer fell on many people late last year (i downloaded the MS update around the time of MW2) so I dont know if i am already banned or not (tried the MS repair trick but couldnt get it to work for me, not sure if there is any proper way of finding this out).

So im currently looking for the best non stealth fw that will allow me to boot and play any game backup going forward.

I currently have a Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943 drive with ixtreme 1.6 (it had iXtreme 1.4 4-8x speed on it previously).

Will i need to put my stock fw on my Samsung 1st before using another fw?

All help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Looking into the research i did it seems the options are:

iXtreme 1.61

or Xtreme 5.2 or 5.3

Only difference with 5.2 and 5.3 seems to be that 5.3 adds disc jitter... doesnt abx360 fix this (if so how?)

Thanks

go buy a BenQ drive off eBay for under $30 including shipping, unless you are outside North America.

flash it with the new LT.

don't worry about spoofing because the latest Dash doesn't keep track of drive IDs.

I've done several that way... not banned yet..

1.6 and 1.61 both check for stealth, your best bet would be to either wait for LT, as it does not do any stealth checks. Other options which are a lot more risky would be to spoof ur drive to lt (I wouldnt suggest this) or, and I'm not sure if this is possible, Flash your drive with earlier ixtreme firmware, and wave patch all your games. I believe ixtreme 1.51, and someone tell me I'm retarded if Im wrong,  was the first firmware to do stealth checks, thus anything below 1.51 does not do a stealth check. however, Using an older firmware is risky as well and is a pain in the ass to wave patch all the backups. Remember, the key word is risky! I've been running 1.51 on a samsung drive for the last 8 months, playing backups and O.Gs, and so far so good. However, I have a feeling either I'm already flagged, or will be if I make the jump to 1.61, thus I'm going to wait for LT and play originals until then...

-edit:BTW, I have no knowledge whatsoever on xtreme firmware, so ur gonna have to get that info from someone else.

I've been considering this, however wouldn't microsoft begin scratching their heads in curiosity if one day an xbox is reporting with samsung firmware, then the next benq?

I honestly didnt think about that option. Looks like i can get a drive like that in the uk for £15, which isnt bad.

As the other person said, whats the chances of MS checking that?

I doubt MS is checking that...

I believe they took that out of the Dash because they probably had too many repair centers bitching about it.

DVD drives go bad.. most of them are replaced at repair centers by just dropping a new Liteon or BenQ in and flashing it with the old drive key...

There are un-official unstealth versions of ix 1.61 floating around. If you don't trust them, you can make your own with a hex editior. To un-stealth the official ix 1.61 change l offset 3382A to 7F for Liteon, then for Benq offset 156CA to 80 and the Samsung offset FCCC and FCE0 to 80

double check first.. im kinda fucked up.
