Problems With Hitachi 79 Unlock Cd
« on: February 28, 2010, 03:54:00 PM »

Have flashed many hits before, but this is my first experience with the 79.

Can get the drive into mode-b fine, but then comes the unlock cd....

for some reason when I put the disc in, and try to close the drive, it closes, but never sounds like it's really spinning all the way up, and then shortly later ejects.

I have actually been able to get it to stay in, even though it still never sounds like it spins up, but then when I press the unlock button, it just seemingly crashes the computer....sometimes the disc ejects out posthumously, sometimes not.

I have also tried the following suggestions:
precede the 79 unlock cd with an original game....in some way hoping to cause some change in alignment of the pots or something?
copy and paste the bin file for the 79 unlock cd over several times to "help" the drive see it
press the unlock button when the tray is still ejected (note: this one at least gets an "unable to play audio" or some such error)

It's also worth mentioning that when jf crashes, I have to manually kill it, and even killing the whole process tree has failed to allow me to re-launch the program.  THe actual exe will start, but it never launches....I haven't bothered to figure out what other services and whatnot it's relying upon and require restarting rather than restart the pc.

Last but not least, if it's of any help, the comp actually hangs on the shutdown screen forever (win 7 x86).

I am of course running as administrator, and have never had a problem with jf in windows 7.

Oh and one more thing....I can get the drive to be seen in windows...I'm not even sure what other methods to consider going about this 79 unlock fiasco.  I also just received this xbox, and foolishly didn't test that it can even play cd-r's in the 1st place, however there was actually another audio cdr in the drive, so I assume it works.  If I weren't so lazy I would probably have put it back together and tested the xbox as of yet.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions....and for reading my unnecessarily detailed post (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

PS Damn you canada.  gg

EDIT: I have also burned this disc 3 times now...1st with alcohol, then with imgburn, and then with the extra data with imgburn....all at low speeds and verified...I know typically with these problems people suspect the burn

It only takes a few seconds for the unlock disk to do it's thing thenJungle Flasher will eject the drive. Once the drive ejects the drive will be ready to read and write it's flash.

so are you saying I don't have to press the unlock button on JF?

Because I'm just talking about when I insert the disk, it auto-ejects....not after pressing the button.

If It has literally done the right thing the last 20 times I will be quite sad lol....I never got any kind of feedback in the log, so......

with JF....goes smooth and very easy

Also read about hitting eject 3 times to get the tray to stay closed.....it did keep the drive closed, but still caused JF to hang on pressing the unlock button

You could try a manual 79 unlock....

Podger released it well before JF was written.

Yeah I even had no success with unchecking the manual box on JF

I might try the podger method later....I'm already about 5 or so hours invested into this damn thing...thought it was going to take 10 mins like usually (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

That's what happens when you offer to do stuff for free (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
