Id prefer not having to buy any additional hardware.
These new lite-ons experience the "open tray" error after a flash also?
Thanks
Flash drive with laser for ribbon disconnected.
Also with complete firmware dump you get the laser calibration part of the firmware so I can't see any reason why your laser would die. Its never happened to me.

Can someone explain to me all this pad101 thing everyone seems to be talking about?
Is that just the small pin hole where the cut is supposed to be made? Like i dont understand whats the big deal with it?
Pad101 is very easy to damage. It can't take much heat. In the MRA tutorial he has you cut very close to it then solder to it. Most people broke it off either when cutting or when soldering. In the BoXXDr method (my way) you cut away from it and jump over it with a wire so less chance of failure. Still many people have manged to mess this up. Most of them didn't prepare the traces correctly. (i use a fibreglass brush) The others used some king of horrible solder and a over powered soldering iron getting things so hot that the traces lifted off.
Then there are the people that get too excited and plug the DVD power line in upside down (even though it is keyed)
So take your time use the correct stuff and you should be fine.
Always check for shorts with a multimeter if you are unsure before powering drive!
Good luck.
