Pcb From Unknown Xbox 360 Dvdrom Drive
« on: February 18, 2010, 08:52:00 PM »

I got a xbox 360 from a friend while back without a dvdrom drive. I have a spare xbox 360 hitachi dvdrom drive but it's not the original. And a couple days ago he just found the PCB that belong to the original xbox 360 dvdrom drive (he didn't find the whole dvdrom drive, just the PCB). However, the PCB is missing some wires. He claims that the PCB came from a samsung dvdrom drive but I did some research and believe that it belongs to a benq or the newer lite-on dvdrom drive. Here are pics of it:

Can anyone help confirm what xbox 360 dvdrom drive this PCB is from?

Also, is there anyway I can get the dvd-key and firmware from this PCB and some how flash into my spare hitachi even though it's missing some parts?

Thanks in advance.

that is a liteon pcb.  use the mra method to dump it and then flash a new liteon drive w/ the info.

Thanks for the fast repost. I can't flash it into the spare hitachi dvdrom drive i already have? It has to be a liteon drive as well?

that would be your best option.  its what i would do, assuming it really does belong to that 360.

you don't HAVE to buy another liteon drive to pop this pcb into in order for it to work. You can just dump the key from this liteon pcb and spoof your hitachi as a liteon and copy the key into the hitachi.

Thanks again for the quick replies. However, I did some research on how to dump lite-on dvdrom drives and found the mra and boxxdr methods. From what I read, looks like it requires some soldering skills. Anyone know if there's a new way to handle dumping the fw and key from my lite-on PCB without soldering?

If you are just going to retrieve the drive key and flash it on the hitachi, you can use this method to build a probe that will allow you to retrieve your drive key without any soldering to the actual PCB of the drive: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=671025

You do have to solder together the probe though and it only allows you to get the key itself, not the entire drive fw. But thats not necessary if you are going to use the hitachi.

get your facts right. thats only applicable if and only if its the older 74850c liteon. the 83850v1 uses pure software dumping via lo83 and the 83850v2 and 93450 require mra method to dump.

@OP: you'll have to connect it to your PC and find out which liteon rev it is using JF since you dont have the drive case. if you do, post the model # that's on the sticker so its easier to advice.

Thanks for the replies once again. But I tried to find out which liteon it is, no luck. I connected the PCB via sata to my mobo and power source is from the xbox 360. JF says no drive detected but my bios indicates that its PLSD DG-16D2S. I found a pic on the net (not mine) of a DG-16D2S:

The FW ver in this pic is 74850c. does this mean my PCB has that FW? or not enough evidence?

Thanks for the quick reply. But how can you tell? Don't the other lite-ons that slayer mentioned have the same PCB with the MT1319L controller chip?

if i aint mistaken 83850 and 93450 have sticker with model/revision version on the underside so if thats the case it would be hard to identify it as anything bar liteon 74850 if the other 2 versions have sticker on the underside with the revision version on.i aint saying they do have i am saying if i aint mistaken (which means MIGHT)
