1.51 Hex Edit For Hitachi 47
« on: February 11, 2010, 09:55:00 PM »

I flashed 1.51 to my drive and as most know it is default 12x I know you can hex edit the firmware so it can run at any of the other speeds also. I have found a couple threads saying to hex edit but what I can't find is somewhere showing me the correct spots to edit.
This page shows for a BenQ drive.

Please point me in the right direction to edit the Hitachi 47 firmware to run at 8x.
Thank you.

Can anyone confirm that changing
00026aef from 04 to 03 will change the speed to 8x?

I did a compare of 1.4 firmware and it looks like the speed values go

01 for 2x
02 for 5x
03 for 8x
04 for 12x

I don't want to flash this without someone confirming this though.

Yeah thanks thats really reassuring. I have been using wave patcher on my backups for now and that seems to work just fine since I don't use live anyways.  And if I wanted to use live I guess I would just use the original game for now. I just don't want to flash my updated firmware until someone actually confirms that it is correct. Don't need to brick my drive.

iXtreme 1.51 on hitachi already plays all waves so i am not sure why you would need to wave patch them.
But i don't know what you need to edit if you want to make drive speed 8x.

Maybe what you can do is use maximus toolbox. It has some older firmwares in it with selections for 12x & 8x. Make two firmwares using that then compare them in a hex editor to see what sectors were modified and what they were changed to. Then you could try and duplicate the change into a iX 1.51 firmware.

Sorry forgot to say I reverted back to 1.4 8x because my drive was to loud at 12x . I did compare the different speeds of the 1.4 version and it looks like what I changed in 1.51 is correct. I was hoping someone may have done this before and would be able to say yes or no.
