Troubles With Ms25
« on: January 03, 2010, 07:50:00 AM »

Hi,

I'm sorry if I posted this wrong, but I couldn't find a newbie subforum in the hacking forum.
I am pretty much a noob at flashing xboxes and I have a question.
I can't seem to find this anywhere on the net.
I've got an xbox with a toshiba-samsung drive, ms25.
Previously I brought it to a guy who said he would flash it for me.
Back-up games never seemed to work though.
At first I thought my DL discs were the problem, but I tried many different brands and none of them worked.
So I began to think this guy had ripped me off and now I'm trying to flash the drive myself.

I tried flashing the drive with both iprep and jungleflasher, but in both cases I can't get the drive in vendor mode. It just goes from 0x51 to 0xD1 whenever I power cycle. Now the question is: does this mean my drive actually was flashed with xtreme firmware and do I need to use activate.iso?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

P.S. in jungleflasher, at firmware version it says: ms25. Isn't it true that if there was xtreme firmware on it, it would say ms28 because the firmware spoofs ms28 to ms25?

Bit of reading required me thinks check some TUTs easiest way for you to learn is prob by getting:

HP USB Utility thingybob - to make a bootable USB stick
Win98 boot files - to use with above to make bootable USB
Dosflash - to put on bootable USB and read/write FMW
Maximus FW Toolbox - to read DVD Key and put onto hacked FMW

After you have your hacked FMW with your DVD Key on it using the toolbox, put it on USB, write and done.  DOS is the way forward.  Oh you were right about the MS28 ixtreme so spoof as MS25 before you save the hacked FMW.

** NOTE **
Next time do some searching instead of starting with "looked but could find anything bla bla bla..." and expecting anyone to believe you!

Use Jungleflasher for creating firmware in a windows environment, Firmware Toolbox is obsolete.
Strictly Dos? Dosflash and Firmtool.

BTW, the ms25/28 part is irrelevant, it'll work no matter what.

First of all I dont think the drive has ever been flashed specially as its showing up as a MS25, if it had been flashed it would show up as an MS28. The incorrect status you are getting could be because you are not power cycling the drive quickly enough under jungleflasher. The MS 25 stock firmware is the easeist drive to flash as it isnt fussy on the sata chipset it uses usally. What type of hardware have you got SATA chipset etc and what are you using to power the drive?

Thanks for your reply.
Believe me, I've searched a long long time to find whether my ms25 is stock or has other firmware on it and therefore would be needing activate.iso. You provided me an alternative method for flashing my drive, which wasn't actually my question  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) As I said, I tried jf and iprep and both gave me 0x51 and 0xD1 while trying to get into vendor mode. Then what am I doing wrong? Other than using jf instead of your list of programs?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I'm using the xbox to power the drive and the onboard sata on my pc (chipset intel 865pe if I'm not mistaking). The chipset indeed isn't listed directly in the compatibility list, but I figured if it recognizes the drive, the chipset is compatible. Or is that a wrong assumption?

just tried again, this is what jungleflasher says in the log:
Sending Vendor Intro to port 0xEC00
Status 0x51
Re-sending Vendor Intro:
......................................... etc.
Device Intro failed!

Ok,

It's very likely flashed and OSIG spoofed (as MS25) - Xtreme3.3+ firmwares are based on MS28 firmware, therefore have firmguard.

0x51 Is Firmguard locking you out.

If it was an MS25, and unmodified (ore Pre Xtreme 3.3) - you would be able to MTK Intro without Firmguard kicking in.

The reason power cycling doesnt work is because you are not using a VIA / NForce chipset, VCC tricks don't work on other Sata Chipsets.

You're using Intel I see, I suggest you read up on:

JungleFlasher / Activate.iso unlocking (Flow chart, ms28, Xtreme 3.3->iXtreme1.4)

JungleFlasher / Half Open Tray (Flow Chart, MS28, iXtreme 1.5+)

That's great, thank you very much. I'm sure my firmware is between xtreme 3.3 and ixtreme 1.4 so I'll try activate.iso unlocking once I bought a couple of DL dvd+r's.
