Need Help Flashing Hitachi 79. Need To Get Pc To Detect It
« on: January 01, 2010, 10:40:00 AM »

Hi I am having a rough time getting my PC to detect the hitachi drive.  Its a stock hitachi with a falcon 360.  I have tried a few permutations but as of yet MY PC will not see the drive.  In the past I was able to flash a Hitachi47 with this same computer but I forgot what I did exactly.  All I remember was a lot of trial and error tring to get it into modeB, but having a pretty easy time seeing the drive.  I cannot see this one.

I have a core i7 system with a gigabyte ex58-udr mobo.  It has intel iCh10 chipset with 6 SATA ports as well as 2 onboard gigabyte SATA ports.   I have tried both but no luck as of yet.  Any suggestions??

EDIT:  Actually both SATA devices do detect the drive as a PDBS VAD6038-64930C , but I can't see it in windows or Jungle flasher and obviously it is not seeing it as a Hitachi.  I am not sure what to try now.

thanks

have you read the JF guide? mode B for those drives can be a hassle. you need to use that audio unlock cd etc.

then use the slaxcd for modeb if you cant get it with jungleflasher modeb feature, once you got modeb, see if jugleflasher recognises the drive,if it does use the unlock cd with jungleflasher or if it dosnt use the cd with windows dos.then use firmware toolbox if jungleflasher still wont have it.

remember to dump the drive and check its got a valid key, then save it and keep it safe, restore the drive back to stock then flash, even though it might be spoofed to a benq you still treat it like it was an hitachi.

I am glad I posted this here.  I bought the system used premodded with XBR and didn't realize the drive was spoofed.  Now I need to figure out whats on it.

It is a hitachi drive 79fl.  I tried slax but it kept giving me errors and never got to modeb.  I used slax2.1.  SHould I try a newer version that may have better support for my hardware?  Also how exactly do you get JF to put it in mode b if you can't detect it?  I refreshing the I/o ports it finds to no avail.  Should I be messing with the drive or something like put a disk in it?

I am starting to wonder if I can even flash this drive.  I can get slax to boot on the drive when it is connected to the intel SATA ports with raid disabled and in legacy mode, but I do not get the spinning disk.  Is it possible that SLax will not recognize a spoofed drive as a Hitachi and thus not do it's thing?  Or is something else going on?
