Ok throughout this thread these questions might have been addressed seperately. but to make it abundantly clear, has anyone did the following with the SS FW...

1. Spoofed a benQ as a liteOn

2. received all system updates from before ban wave with the spoofed BenQ in liteOn console

3. been on live for more than a week with said console

I am really on the fence with this been reading up since the start of this SS mod to the FW,
really want to hear from someone that has done what i am asking. If anyone can contribute it will be appreciated. Thanks.

Me, I had 1.5 on before flashed from stock never used online. I then spoofed to Rev2 first then updated console. Played on live for a few weeks then upgraded to Rev3 then Rev4. Still good so far.

BenQ spoofed as LiteOn.

Yeah, the version there doesn't seem to have been updated since Rev4 fix1 came along, why is that?
So if spoofing a benq as a liteon, don't we need that coz rev4 had problems to start with. SS?

On a side note, can anyone report how smooth the benq firmware is running now?
I remember not long back when the firmware on them was laggy on backups, especially one's like assassins creed. It improved with 1.51 but when compared with other drives it still was not as good.
My options are either samsung or benq spoofed as liteon or the original liteon drive. Want non-stealth of course.
Prefer to spoof atm because there is talk of laser calibration data that is in the original liteon firmware but this can be edited as long as you have it.

Well I'm officially done waiting for LT.  Ordered a new BenQ from hong kong for 20$ shipped and gonna spoof that sucker with rev4 fix1.  Would be a clever trap for MS to set though.  Make everything think 1.41 is safe then hit another wave next month......  We'll see.  I'll take my chances.

I also remember the BenQ lagging in some games and reading discs a tad slower then other drives I've had.  Is this fixed?  Haven't had a BenQ in over a year.  Don't remember last firmware I tried.

I have had no problems with my BenQ spoofed or not with game running poorly. Although i do install ALL my games to the HDD.

also my Benq lagging for some Video in Game...for examples: THe Video introduction of Prototype, or the video of Dragon Age and BORDERLANDS! have you my same problem? i try also to burn to another Verbatim disc on 2x, but is the same result .... only if i install the game on the Hd, the video go smoothly. have you a solution 4 this? only few Video of games have this probs! .

Maybe your laser is going? Mine wasn't reading discs so i took it apart and cleaned the laser and but it back together and its been fine for months now.

If not just install the games to your HHD that your having the problems with.

You won't have the same probs if you install to hdd but the benq does still have to work hard to keep the video running compared to other drives. I remember trying all speeds (2x/5x/8x/12x) and 5x seemed the least noisy and any faster didn't seem to improve anything. Comparing cut scenes with a samsung it was obvious, in game suffered also (GTA4, popups anyone? lol)
Shame really, they are a good drive otherwise and would be my first choice if not for this.

Makes me wonder why backups do this coz originals are smooth and apparently they have the same laser as liteon.
Maybe they have laser calibration data in the orig benq firmware that has never been discovered, only just now have they reported about it in the full orig liteon firmware. Something they did in the updated iX fw helped but didn't cure.

Team Jungle just posted on their Twitter "All new checks found, all fws (stealth and non-stealth) will fail these checks and get flagged for banning, except LT!"

So this and all other stealth firmwares are not safe for live. Hopefully if you used this or any other firmware online that you arent flagged yet and you can go back to stock until LT comes out.
