You can just as easily make one with 2 sewing needles, a bit of breadboard and one 18 Ohm resistor.  Wire it into the DVD connector to get the Ground and 3V.

Cheap?  Don't you mean $9.80 too expensive?

I'm not one for electronics so I didn't have the crocodile clips, pogo pins, conductive glue or the resistors just laying around, so would have needed to purchase them anyhow! I'm happy paying $10 for that since I make about $50 a flash.  Also I don't mind supporting Diygadget, they provide some great indepth tutorials and some really nice cheap alternatives...I own a few of their products, none have given me any issues.
