Options For A Fried Lite-on 8350c
« on: December 10, 2009, 06:21:00 PM »

Ok. so i litteraly just got a brand new xbox arcade today. I opened it up, first thing i did was check the drive and it was a Lite-On 8350C. Never flashed one of these before but i thought id give it a shot. The tutorial i read used a CK3, but i have the pre-august version of the 8350c so i didnt need a probe. i figured id give my Connectivity kit V2 a shot. I was able to use jungleflasher to extract the inquiry.bin, dummy.bin, serial.bin, etc..
I flashed the key to a seperate drive and spoofed it just to check the key. They key was correct so i continued on with flashing. When i tried to run the "Lite-On Unlock" i unplugged the power and quickly plugged it back in. I got "Drive in Vendor Mode" but didnt have any flash chip properties. So i tried again. this time nothing happened. i tried to eject the drive and it didnt work. Uh-Oh. So i plugged it into my xbox and get the blinking light. finally i plugged it back to my computer and jungleflasher no longer recognized it. I determined its fried. Luckily i have all the information to put another drive in the xbox. But its a shame to see a brand new Lite-On drive go to waste like that. Im pretty technical, is there anything i can look for in the drive that may be repairable? What are my options if any to repair the drive? Thanks

try erasing it with LOeras, and flashing in DOS. don't think it's "fried" at all.

good news, your drive isn't fried, you just can't follow instructions.
u don't power cycle during lo erase (doesn't your connectivity kit have a power switch?).
plug everything back up and send the lo erase command back to the port that your drive is on.
you power cycle in the process after lo erase.
after that, if you don't see anything in flash properties u need to intro, of u do see something, then don't
write .cfw and you are done.
have fun getting banned if you plan on going online.

Thanks! You were right. My drive is fine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  What do you mean by have fun getting banned? is a Lite-On more vulnerable to getting banned? or just the fact of the recent ban wave? im holding off for the LT firmware before i go online anyway, but if i did go online is the Lite-On more of a risk than say my TSH94sA?

there is no safe firmware for a liteon drive.  if you play on it and are connected to the internet you will get banned.  if you aren't connected you still might get banned.  there is some non stealthing firmware for you sammy that some believe to be safe, you might look into that route until lt comes out or just hold off on your mod.

glad you got it fixed. my first 8350 did me that way i hit lo erase then power cycle. no info. did that about 4 times before the info loaded. it was my buds and he started sweating and thought it was bricked. it was funny becuse a few weeks eailer i thought he brick my Wii when he modded it so i guess you could say i returned the favor   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
