Hd Upgrade Not Happening
« on: April 05, 2005, 06:46:00 PM »

Well, long story but here goes. I recently bought a mod chip and following the instructions on this website, I successfully soldered it into my xbox. Now everything's fine I can play backed up games and can ftp to my computer. So now here comes the next project, Harddrive replacement. I followed the tutorial and backed up the xbox through system utilities on the Evox dash, I also backed up the C & E drive onto my computers harddrive. After that I went to the ini file and changed it as per the tutorials instructions. Next I made an xiso of the backed up files and the ini file. I then opened nero and placed the default.xbe file first then the iso file, and burned. Well I know my xbox can read the CD-RW I burned on because I've used it before. But the Xbox does not bring up the Evox dash all it does is show me a code 13 along with flashing red & Green. I've tried everything not making an iso, making an iso with the default xbe file in it, making an iso with dummy files in it to increase the size of the file everything you can name I've done it. Well everything besides  Raw FTPing to the new HD and throwing the damn thing away. Any help is appreciated, oh yeah it's not even that big of a harddrive its a 80 gig.    Thanks!!!

I would recommend burning slayers onto a dvd-r then using that as a load disk.  From there you can format the drive and add most any of the programs you need.

^ He has a good idea, if you're not sure about setting up your boot disk, use slayers.

In addition you might need a new cd-rw, some of the tutorials reccomend a "fresh" one.  I'd try the slayers disk first though.

Thanks fellas, but did I fail to mention I have a apple X V chip, and have the slightest idea as where to get slayers.

Are you sure you're burning that disc the right way? You might want to try using a DVD-R just to be sure, but if you've used the CD-RW before then it should work here. After you make the xiso of the default.xbe and the backup folder, open nero and burn it to the disc using the Burn Image option (don't just place the files on the CD). Also, after you select the .iso file and are about to burn it, make sure you check the box that says "Finalize after burning". This might only apply to DVDs (not sure), but I wasted 3 discs before I figured this out when I was upgrading my HD.

I am having the same problem.

I softmodded my xbox with krayzies installer.. which worked great.

I copied  my C and E drives as listed in the tuturial.

I created the xiso.....im not sure if i did it correctly.
It seemed that the only way to copy an ISO image was if it was a folder.. it would let me  drag and drop the default.xbe and evox.ini.. into it..   i just created a folder and placed the following in it...

default.xbe
evox.ini
backup folder (with correct items)

Then created a an iso of THAT primary folder?

i checked the CDRW's .. and it seems that other people indicate that the office depot CDRWs will work with my philips drive.

i get the ERROR 13 message also.

questions...   1)does anyone have any idea how to correct this?
                    2) when editing the evox.ini file... do i just change the items under [MENU] ......or everything that is listed below Menu.  (like [action 10]  and [action 11]

Any help is appreciated!!

I'm having a problem with xbox when I run games off the dvd. I think it might have something to do with the new hd I installed. the game hangs on startup... I tried tenchu - and I don't even make it past the X screen (retail kernal) .. and with Project Gotham it starts the intro, but when I press a button to skip the intro it hangs right there.

Any Ideas? I think it might have to do with loading save games, thats just a guess tho.

They way I installed the HD was to copy C and E onto my PC, then I formatted the partitions using Xenium OS2.0.1, and I copied the HD files back onto the new harddrive.

Thanks in advance

you kno that when your burn in nero you go to RECORDER>BURN IMAGE

and yes when you make an xiso (use quix or craxtion) make the foler an xiso. so it would be like this:

EVOX 3935 NEW HDD (folder)---< evox.ini
                                                  default.xbe
dummyfile.bin (to make the cd bigger)

then burn the xiso the way that i posted above, should work peachy

It can be anything.  Try zipping the nero.exe file and adding that.

Well, First let me thank everbody for your help. Thank-You!!! But here's the new problem, I finally got the HD swap disk to work. I put it on a DVD-R rathe than a CD-RW and it loaded right up, but now there's no option to install or format a new drive, also everything that I put in the evox ini is totally different from whats in the settings menu. When it gets to setup network it says no instead of yes, I put it in the ini file as yes but it shows no when on the xbox. The ip address is also weird it has a different setting from the one I put in the ini file. I know im using the right ini in my iso, so can someone tell me what's going on?

Error 13 is due to a missing xboxdashdata folder on the C: drive or the files withing that folder.
