thx for the replies so far.
it plays originals
it plays dvds.
its NEVER played a back up.
I agree with the comment about previously being soldered perhaps. That was my first thought as well.
No the system sent back was NEVER modified or even opened.
It was returned with a faceplate. I received a system back with a fresh face plate and my original face plate sitting on top in the box. Leads me to think this isn't the original system returned.
My friend bought a new one after this one stopped working. Too lazy to RMA it.. so I did it for him and he said I could keep it.
But he doesn't like modding his stuff for fear of breaking so this was never touched. But like I said I dont think this is the original system I sent out.
As for the process... I believe with the amount of times I've done this and variations, I woulda had to of accidentally got it right regardless... but heres what ive done:
So the usb cable is in the usb port, the power is going to the power (the correct way) and the spear is hooked up and shows a blue and yellowish(i think) leds....
I flick the switch OFF
turn the PC on
flick the siwtch ON
eject the tray
flick the switch OFF
push it in half way
then my system is now at "choose OS, windows XP or windows XP" and counts down from 15
I flick the switch ON and the drive is powered on half way
I choose the OS
load up jungle flasher
choose the correct IO port
shows the drive info etc
choose the com3
says its USB and its ready
I touch the probe...to the spot
hit the dvd32(or whatever the button is called)
WARNING BAD SERIAL DATA
I try the probe on the pad on the board insted of the little hole...
WARNING BAD SERIAL DATA
other than that... I've tried not power the drive on until windows is loaded.. sometimes freezes windows.. otherwise same results....
no light changes when i touch the spear to the indicated points.. and im SURE its the right points(hole and bottom pad)...ill try and post up a pic of what im looking at.....
