looking at the Pic near the end of the second post in "How to repair Liteon..."
Is it even required to  reinstall the board for the extraction of the original fw? or can we simply leave it disconnected from the flat cables and the power control wires (y y w w r b )?
thks

Ok, this is probably a dumb question, but do the ribon cables and such need to be attached from the board to the drive when you are reading/writing?

edit: Just realized the guy above me asked the same question. Also, the guy that boxxdr refered for the lenline brush did not answere his e-mail, anybody else know of a place to get them? I searched radio shack and ebay and came up empty.

you don't really need a lenline brush....it is just an option, simply use an xacto knife or razor blade to make a small scrape thru the green laminate to access the copper trace

Ya, I usually just use a small screwdriver to scrape off the laminate, but i figured I would try out the lenline brush, but I will try that nail file idea. Also, boxxdr mentioned using small dremel cutting disks to cut the traces. Is it possible to purchase the small disks or do you have to grind down the regular sized ones?

Syntaxerror has said on a few occasions that he no longer uses a dremel...I use the tip of a craft knife to remove the green, very accurate and quick.

2) For the boxddr method you need to make and break a contact to GND (using a switch/manually hold then release/pliers to cut the connection).  There are lots of Ground's available e.g. use the Ground on the PCB and scrape away some of the coating, use one of the legs on the PCB power connector (like is used on the LT switch).

3) I use the console to power all my flashes and have piggybacked 2 extra wires coming from the Xbox DVD connector 3.3V and GND to make a homemade vampire spear.  There is (was) a flag set if you power on the box without the drive connected but I use an old RROD one so it's not an issue.

If you want to spend money then buy a CK3 but you really don't need to spend a penny.

thanks for the kind reply, I see how 2) works now. As for 3) though, I guess I am SOL without a spare PSU from a RROD unit sad.gif

been trying to get this liteon flashed for several days now..

I've tried 10,15,20,22,25 ohm resistors and here's what I get. (all are 1/4 or 1/2 watt)

on PC1 (intel ich10 chipset) jungle flasher gives me status 0x80
on PC2 (nforce2 with silicon image 311 sata controller) jungleflasher gives me status 0x51/0xD1

JF see's the drive when the switch is off (on both pcs but cant intro) and it doesnt see it at all when the switch is on.

When I have the switch off, the xbox lights are normal.  When I switch them on, they flash green.  (while connected to the pc)

I've checked the connections with a multimeter several times now to make sure everything is connected properly and not grounding out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just some more info. I'm powering with ck3 and connected to a win XP machine with a VIA pci card.

The liteon is connected to the sata port on the end of the pci card inside the machine.

VIA drivers not installed

Install drivers then disable as per the instructions in the JF guide.

Disabling is very different from not installing at all...you need a error status 39 in Device manager, not installing anything will give you 28

Did the Soldering and Cuts (havent got multimeter unfortunately)

Connected the circuit board back to the DVD drive with its three ribbon cables.

Hooked up the Liteon to the CK3 for power and SATA cable to the VIA PCI Card (Connected to the SATA port on the card innermost inside the computer i.e  on the opposite end to the one that is available from the outside of the pc when fitted)

The switch that was soldered to the board is in the ON position.

Power on CK3 to send power to the drive.

Load up DosFlash

DosFlash cycles through drives giving messages which I click 'Cancel'

DOSFlash finishes its scan of drives and settles on my Internal PC DVD Drive.

From the port drop down I then choose a port (0000x15 from what I can remember).

This then shows up as LIteon modelin DosFlash but dosnt have any chipset info available.

Thats as far as I got.

Hope that helps?

I know that in the past I have had to use another SATA port on the PCI card to do other models of drives...didnt know if that was an issue or not this time round?
