Got everything setup properly (or so I think) with the 3 cuts, wires soldered, switch set...when I start JF and click on Intro I get the drive recognized but with a status 0x51...then no matter what I do, power cycle etc I just get 0x52...

Any ideas as to what I might not have or have done incorrectly? This is driving me crazy

BTW I have tried with a 22 and now a 20 ohm resistor...

I was getting 0x51 all the time too. Try clicking Intro first, then power on the drive while the dots are being drawn. I get 0x72 every time that way.

Update and warning to others. I ended up pulling out my fluke multimeter and did find a short. It was on the opposite side than you work on. Some of the original solder melted a bit and was touching a ground. Also I used a cold solder iron and it still overheated and melted so be careful doing this.

If you think i seen your post and then copied you, you are seriously outta your mind. First time i did this hack pad101 broke. Then a friend of mine did the hack and also broke pad101. The solution was very obvious. Cut further away from the pad and jump over it with a wire. I don't speak a word of spanish and have never been to or even heard of elotrolado. Every picture and diagram was done by me. The only person deserving credit was credited in the first line of my first post. This was MRA's idea. Adding one little jump does not take away from the fact the MRA was first for this hack. All credit goes to MRA and none goes to you!

Actually Geremia posted concept, others posted chip data, I suggested using switch,MRA wrote Pin-Lift method, I snapped pin on some1elses drive(despite being smt-rework xpert) others suggested track-cut and some locales(having had similar probs),MRA perfected method and posted track-cutting method: No need to cut in two places and then leave wire behind after, Simply: Cut V-shape over top of via(thru-hole) with scalpel. Bridge w/ non-smc paste after dump. Easy!
PS: Not to be-little sytax's involvement I recall him being early suggester of track-cutting.

This was all developed in a short space of time on the other forum after Modfreakz method was a no-show wink.gif

if you're looking for an easy way, bridge 100 and 101 on startup, can be unbridged the second the drive is on, then read. simple as that. no cutting no lifting no soldering. *note* will not work in about 1 in 10 drives, those drives are the picky ones that require the resistor to be lower than 22ohms.

has anyone tried this method? where is 100?

no cutting/lifting/soldering... hmm

Can you post a link to this "V" method? I would like to take a look at that and try it on the next drive I do.

Thanks in advance

All you do for the V method is instead of cutting the PAD101 off with a strait line you cut a bit of a v shape into the trace above it but not so far that you cut through the trace. Then you don't have to do the jump.
I still think people will be breaking the pad off if they try this. All to save 2 minutes.

Having real difficulty getting a "clean" cut on the traces - and a dremel tool isn't an option at the minute. I've been using a small flat head screwdriver, and had very limited success, and not a very good result!

Any tips on a particular tool to use?

Thanks in advance -

I asked a co-worker of mine to show me exactly how to cut traces and to be honest he just used an exacto knife. I was also amazed to find out that the trace does not run all that deep. WHen I was looking at the photos, especially of the dremel tool results, I figured that I had to go deeper. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but just pressing firmly with an exacto knife and running over the trace a couple of times should do it.

Wow, that does seem easy and I'll give that a shot on my v2
