first things first, it sounds like the drive has a bad flash and its causing the drive to be unresponsive.
check your firmware dump and see if its spoofed right (if needed) and the key...
if its all correct, you should just go ahead and try a different firmware (get from another source/site than the first one)
also check your drives power cable ( check if its backwards, or if some point in it is bridged with another wire)... i had this problem with my ms28 a couple of times.... some were bad flashes, and others were because of the power cable ( i got a spare one, plugged it in, and that worked) (IMG:

Thanks for the reply. I can confirm that it is not a bad flash as the drive has been working fine for well over a year, it just seems that since it got banned the console has been acting up, especially with the dvd drive becoming sticky at first then not working at all. I have also tried what you suggested by changing the drive cable all to no affect. I also tried another working drive in the xbox and that seemed to work ok ejecting and opening without any problems at all. Any other ideas however would be gratefully appreciated thanks.
