Switching From Samsung To Lite-on.
« on: November 14, 2009, 02:07:00 PM »

Hey folks, new guy here.

Now, before you flame me into oblivion, I have tried searching for tutorials, but they're either confusing, irrelevant, outdated, or a combination of the three. I reckon you guys will be seeing similar threads in the coming weeks, so it'd save you time if you helped me out. Please.

I got banned from Xbox Live today. I knew it was inevitable, and I never really played online anyway, so I didn't care much. What did annoy me however, was that those bastards at Microsoft decided to disable hard drive installation for us pirates. Now, I have a Samsung drive, which is loud as fuck. I hear the Lite-On drive is quietest, so I want to switch. Trouble is, I don't really know how.

Can someone quickly run me through the process? I know how to install iXtreme, and I have my Samsung drive key written down, so all I really need to know is how to spoof the Lite-On drive once I get it.

Thanks in advance folks. I really wish I had backed up my NAND so I could undo this bullshit. If you haven't been banned, do this ASAP, or you'll end up like me. I wish I'd been warned. Microsoft has gone a step too far pulling shit like this.

To be fair, NAND can only be backed op on consoles pre-latest dashboard update, and for may it's far too late.

I've been banned and like you, cannot stand the fucking loud DVDROM drive. So what I've done is bought a BenQ and flashed it with a 5x (speed) iX1.4 non-stealth f/w. Now it boots all waves and is as quiet as it'll ever be (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Isn't Lite-On the quietest? Why not get one of those instead? Or am I wrong? I would just lower the speed of my Samsung drive, but I don't think it'd help much. Plus, the already shitty load times would just get worse.

That's not very encouraging... Do you reckon it's worth switching?

Guys - is there a multispeed, non-stealth iXtreme firmware available for Samsung drives? I can't seem to find one.

thats not true, nand can be backed up on all updates, it's running XeLL thats limited to the older dashboards. a simple backup and reflash can be performed on ANY dash, only that later dashes can't boot xell to get the cpukey thus you cannot edit and keyvault and unban yourself.

If you back up the dash before you get banned then revert back to it afterwards wouldn't your console become unbanned again? Why would you need the CPU key?

you are right, but be aware to do NAND backup after every dash update (because sometimes dash burns fuses after update). Then if you want to revert to old backup after burned fuses You will fail (RROD)

You console serial is still checked by MS when you log in, and if it's blacklisted you're banned again.

Yeah, but as long as you don't go online your xbox would become uncrippled again. Correct?

Why don't you just go with iXtreme v1.61 Multispeed 8x (unofficial hack) firmware for Samsung?
