Kind of off topic but I want to know an answer. Its about undumpable liteons. WEll when the 360 boots it asks the drive for the key right? so the drive gives the key (might be encrypted or w@evr)...so why can we make a program that can send a similar command and retrieve the key? unsure.gif

Perhaps someone here can answer my question?

I think someone mentioned that the team does actually have the key and code, they just can't find any holes in it. Apparently had it for a couple of months. Of course this could be BS, but the guy seemed to know his stuff. He posts on here, name begins with an O but I can't recall it sorry.

The console doesn't 'ask for the key', it never has to actually look at the key on the drive. The way I understand it is this: The game data is streamed from the disc and encrypted using the key on the drive, the xbox is able to decrypt the data because it has a matching key.

That's why a bad key makes the console see games as DVD video, the console can't decrypt the game data because it is being encrypted with a mis-matched or bad key.

Indeed. The console does not need to check or verify the key since it already has the matching key. If they does not match then the data cant be decrypted and game does not play.

For anyone still not understanding the drive key thing, here is an analogy:

Imagine a box which has a padlock on it. This padlock has two keys, I have one key, my friend has the other key. I put an object in the box, lock it with my key then send the box to my buddy.

My buddy can open the box with his key and get to the object inside, because he already has the correct key for the lock. He doesn't need to use my key to open the box because he already has one himself.

Forgive me if this is an obvious question.... but didn't ixtreme 1.51 have no wave checks? So why not downgrade to 1.51 and that way you don't need the activate.iso disk either?

1.5.1 didn't work as intended for any drive but the hitachi.

Thanks, you just saved me the hassle of downgrading. Looks like I'll be eagerly awaiting LT like everyone else.
