Burnt Out Liteon Drive - Need Help Troubleshooting

QUOTE(ps2moduk @ Oct 28 2009, 11:52 PM) *

If your drive has had intro/device id sent and you reboot whilst it is still in that mode it will not show up in the JF properties. (you may also find win xp takes forever to boot up when it is connected)
It is a long shot but running outro may well work.
Also try hooking it up in dos and using usb modification tool.

hmmm ok, i tried connecting it to the pc last night while the pc was on. it didnt show up in jf, but i ran the outro command. it didnt look like it did anything..... whats the right procedure for running the outro command? (just to make sure im not missing a vital step) should i turn off the pc, connect the drive, then turn the pc on again?

ill try to find a dos tutorial and follow that.

thanks
Rob

You may be in luck with dosflash. I have always had a problem with jungle flasher (even with perfectly fine drives) but dosflash has never let me down. I have dumped a few lite on's in dosflash that had similar problems you are experiencing with jungle flasher never detecting the drive. Dosflash is always my preferred method but others prefer JF, it is always user specified smile.gif

Just clicking the Outro button will send the command to your designated sata port. It was a long shot but worth a try.
I agree with Bizz about trying dos (either dosflash or grab the usb modification tool - 1.6) at this point in time you are aiming to get the key from the drive first and foremost.
If all else fails no harm sending your drive to whoever it was that offered earlier in the thread.

I have also done this stupid mistake once, when I was drunk and were to flash my cousins friends Xbox 360. It was the old LiteOn as well and it worked like a charm in the Xbox 360 but simply wouldn't extract the key. I checked all the points with a multimeter and everything looked good and nothing burned but the DVD still didn't extract the key. Had no choice but to get him another Xbox 360. I'm sorry man but even if it looks good it might be broken. But good luck and if the firmware of the motherboard is still old enough you could get it from the JTAG hack.

ok a bit of an update.

i sent the drive to someone from a different forum to have a look at. he resoldered a connection near R207.
(IMG:http://server3.uploadit.org/files/elcap19-photo2.jpg)
now the dvd drive powers up, ejects, closes etc.

but now it wont read any discs..... it spins up for a second then stops. on the tv it shows "reading disc" for a second and then changes to "open drive"... it used to read discs fine before!

any ideas on how to fix this?

Rob

Edit: oh yeh he was able to extract the key, so at least i have that. so as a last resort i can get a replacement drive and flash the key onto that.

hey, did you try other discs? Non-xbox discs?

I think I had a drive do this way back when.It played all but xbox. I went ahead and flashed it. Problem solved.

I have the same issue as you, struggling with the power, it ended up sparking without being inserted. The drive  stopped working (or could be without firmware as stupid JF froze while doing something just before the spark incident.)

sinc ethen, even in dos, I cant seem to revive it.

My question is: Did you notice of the chip with the M on it got awfully hot? I cant keep my finger on it, it gets so hot.

Anyone knows?

well ive tried dvd videos and music cds. nothing works. just the same noise and 1 second spin up.
i spoofed the original liteon firmware to another xbox dvd drive and that plays games etc fine. so the dvd key is good.

i think the drive is fucked sad.gif oh well, at least i know i can put another drive in.

for the replacement drives, is there less chance of being banned if i get another liteon drive? or can i get a benq drive instead? (cos i heard they were quieter)

also if someone wants my old liteon dvd drive (to fix up, or whateva) ill sell it to them cheap, cos otherwise its going in the bin.

Hello ElCap 3 months ago I did the same mistake like you molex of liteon 74 put at upside-down (smoke on the pcb .......etc, green led doesn't stop on the 360)

after that i found the solution on the xbox scene forum's ( I soldered a cable befare and after the smoked part of the pcb) and good news the liteon back to life but didn't read anything(it turn for 2 seconds than stops and the 360 show me the message (open tray)

but at leas i could dump the key(dummy) and spoofed-it by a benq and it work perfectly for me with this benq until now .

so i am happy for you and i ask you if you found a soulution to fiw your liteon write a post here

thank you so much

ended up buying a benq drive and spoofing it as a liteon.

the 360 works fine now.

it would have been good to figure out why the old lite on wasnt working, but im outta ideas and i doubt id have any time to work on it if i did.

thanks for the help guys!

So yesterday i did the exact same thing as the op. There are no visible signs of damage to the logic board, except for the R207.

So guys, all i want to do is recover the key. I have read the topics about this subject and I'm a little confused about wich points should I solder or connect in order to be able to read the firmware.

The drive already had ixtreme 1.51, I was going to update it to 1.60 but I don`t have the key.

the resoldering of that connection near R208 could do the trick?

as in the pic posted by elcap here

thanks in advance, guys
