Maybe A New (new) 83850c Firmware Out
« Reply #375 on: November 12, 2009, 06:01:00 PM »

Yes,

Although my JF crashed during writing the 1st bank which I found strange as it normally crashed during LiteOn erase but never mind.

I created a dosflash memory stick and did the usual l-o-erase until status FF72 then used dosflash to write my new firmware.

It works fine playing backups and originals.

Apparantly the 83850c August is very hit and miss.

The first time I tried to flash the Lite-on 83xxx, it crashed during the flash but not erase.

Did you use dosflash to write it then or give up?

If you are referring to my post, I used JungleFlasher all the way, just tried the flash again.

I don't know why I can't edit my post if it the last.

I heard from a repair/parts shop that the undumpable drives will eventually be getting a modchip supposedly in February 2010.

Until I see some prototypes or shops having pre-orders, I won't take too seriously.

What I was told is that the Debug Mode that is used to get the drive keys in the Lite-on is gone from the newer ones.

I still have hopes for a softmod solution since I don't like the idea of having to crack open the drive and solder some stuff to it.

I would preferably like to have 2 drive for 1 360. One modded and the other one stock.

I am a bit confused as to what Lite-On drive I should be trying to get. I found a new system from April of this year, and one from July. Is there any reason the drives needing the probe are unwanted now? I see people here saying they want the 8xxx series (as long as it's flashable). Why is this?

If you don't already have a probe then the 83xxx is more desirable.  If you already have a probe, I don't think it matters.

Ah, thank you. I do have a probe so that works out great. I just thought the 83XXX might be quieter or there was some other reason people wanted them (like maybe they will get the newer "Live friendly" firmware or something).

Actually the only difference between the 74xxx and the 83xxx is the firmware.  The hardware is exactly the same.

Ah but I wonder if Microsoft did something different between those firmwares that made it more detectable? Also it's not identical in hardware I'm thinking because the probe does not light up blue where it does on the 74xxx drive.

Anyone tried something on the new 9xxxx LiteOns in DOS?

I think he is a liar or got one mislabeled 9xxxx, but a guy here said he dumped the key of one and used it on a 7xxxx drive.

Tonight (local time) he will tell how.

You are so lucky

My MW2 console came with a nice 94xxx version.

What is the manufacturing date of yours?

i opened both of my MW elites and one of them was a lite-on from august (xbox manf date 09/08/2009).  the other, to my surprise, was a july edition (xbox manf date also 09/08/2009).

haven't tried to aug version, but the july version seems to be good to go.  i was able to obtain dummy.bin.  now just waiting on LT.
