I find it funny that some people bought the MW2 360 and it came with a modable drive and others, like myself) got the new 94xxx series.

I bought an Arcade with a manufacturing date of June 24, 2009 and it had a February 74xxx drive.  I bought a second Arcade from the same Gamestop and it was manufactured in July 20, 2009 and came with a July 83xxx drive.

My MW2 360 was manufactured in Sept and it had a Sept Drive in it of the 94xxx kind.

My MW2 console has a built date of late Aug and has a July 09 83850c in it.. im guessing its modable, although I have heard of some July 09s not being flashable and some being flashable.. I haven't hook it up to yet to see and am not going to until new FW comes out. I guess I could try and just pull the key and not flash it.. that won't hurt it.

I have flashed my MW2 console now with ixtreme 1.6 but havent played on live, just tested it once with a backup and it worked fine.

Would it be fair to say I am still safe if i dont use it until the new firmware is released then flash it and go on live?

You played a backup you are already at risk.

FCK!! MS have won again. In theory the dumping of new drives cannot be impossible. Console compares the key that stored in drive's eeprom with the key in motherboard while starting games. So console READS the key. Its necesarry to find out - how it proceeds.

OMG how many times do me and others have to explain this!

For the last damn time no the key does not need to be verified.

The data from the drive gets encrypted with the drive key located within the drive. This encrypted data gets transferred to the console (NO DRIVE KEY IS SENT!). The console decrypts this data using the same matching key within the motherboard itself. AGAIN NO KEY IS TRANSFERRED. If the keys are the same the data is properly decrypted. If they don't match the game does not play simple as that.

It works the same way as
http://en.wikipedia....ey_cryptography
the key is never sent with the communication, a copy of the decryption key is held by both
parties, in this case, the mobo/drive.

So I mean no matter how but the key is transferred in encrypted form, as encrypted data. For today not only one xbox's drive has been hacked. I suppose some hackers know about encryption methods that are used in Xbox360.

LOL You are slow! Reread the comments..... Basically let me simplify it for you:

Box a can be opened by using Key X.

Box a is on the DVD drive.

We send box a to the motherboard.

The motherboard also has a copy of key X and it can also open box a...

Tadaaaa!!

Anyone tried swapping the TSOP chips of a flashable and unflashable 83850c?

That would not work as that is where the firmware is stored and the key is stored in the firmware.

ok. Let's assume we already know what is in the "box" (in decrypted form) but we don't know the key.
we put an original game in the dvd reader, the drive thinks to send this "box" to motherboard but we capture it.
i think it's possible to bruteforce decrypting system until decrypted data match, and find the dvd-key that is unique per console but use always the same crypting method.

Did anyone check the factory-code on the back of the xbox? I mean the 'fdou' or whatever codes under the serial number. Perhaps this first batch of undumpable drives, well, i guess you get it.

NO

What you're talking about and is completely irrelevent in this situation is when for example you have an encrypted archive and already have in your posession a couple of files from the archive decrypted. With this under some situations it is possible to get the decryption key depending on the cypher used etc etc....(I don't understand myself but I do understand the principle and you're wasting your time talking about it)

That is all.
