Portio And Jungleflasher Issue.
« on: September 15, 2009, 11:04:00 AM »

Id apreciate some advice with the following problem....I have done my research and found the cause of the problem, but am clueless as to the solution.

I am using a freshly formatted PC runing 32 bit XP Service Pack 3, all .net framework etc installed.

I finaly bit the bullet and installed PortIO and moved from doing Lite-on's in DOS to JF in Windows. As such, straight from the PC format, I did NOT install the Via drivers for my 6421A PCI card.

I was trying to flash a Hitachi today,  and using JF 0.1.66, I find I cannot select PortIO on the Hitachi screen as it is permanantly greyed out. I can click Mode B and it turns the drive into mode B, and the message below tells me PortIO is found and working. I have tried to research the greyed out issue, and have seen that you have to select Use Via drivers on the other screen, but this is done, and makes no difference.

I can use version 1.51 of Jungleflasher, and it DOES give me the option to select PortIO, and from this I was able to work on the Hitachi drive. I then looked at the changelog and can see that at version 0.1.55, a check was added to verify no drivers are installed (code 39).....this is where it gets weird.
In my device manager, sure enough there is a yellow ! next to my Via card, and a reason "no device drivers are installed", but instead of "code 39", mine is reporting "code 28".

Does anyone know why this is, or how I can get it to report Status 39 instead of 28 ?

HELP !

Seemingly you didnt fully read my post thoroughly where I said that checking that box made no difference, however thanks for taking the time to reply.

I have now found the solution, so am posting it here just in case someone else ever has the same problem, and they can now find it in a search....

As previously stated, Jungleflasher looks for a via device with a status 39. A device that has never ever been installed from a format provides code 28. The answer lies in the fact that a device that has once had drivers, but has now had its drivers removed provides status 39. Perhaps Jungleflasher should be looking for a status 39 or a 28, but as it doesnt, the solution I had to do was the following :

1. In Device Manager, uninstall the PortIO device (no need to reboot as it suggests)
2. Manualy remove the PortIO driver file (files can be found under device manager, look at the portIO device driver details to see the filename)
3. Update the drivers on the Via card to the correct windows drivers (5.30 preferrered).
4. Reboot.
5. Follow the instructions in the appendix in the Jungle Flasher guide for manualy removing the Via driver files.
6. Manualy (re)install the PortIO driver as per the readme file in the PortIO package.
7. Driver status on the Via card will now have changed from 28 to 39 !
8. A reboot was required for me (said it wasnt needed in the readme, but I had to).
9 PortIO now works perfectly in jungleflasher.

Im guessing most people have gone down the route of already having the drivers installed and removing them, so have never come accross the status 28 issue.

you have found the correct answer but you are getting yourself a bit confused, portio32 package and hitachi portio are different things, with any jungleflasher installation via drivers need to be installed once for jf to enumerate ports, then via drivers are needed to be removed as per the tutorial, now you should have a card with a status 39 , and the way to check it is to uncheck and then recheck via only in dvd key then jf will look at the card and if status 39 is reported portio for hitachi will be enabled, and the portio button under the hitachi will be no longer grayed out, the uninstalling and reinstalling of portio32 is not required.Pleased you got sorted anyhow.

Sadly, its all in the wording.

Removing VIA drivers implies they were there to begin with smile.gif

I get Code 31 instead of 39.  Drivers were on there, removed them to be able to use JungleFlasher on LiteOns, but now can't do Hitachi! sad.gif
