Help Wanted In Modding Your Favourite Game?
« on: April 05, 2005, 02:37:00 AM »

HI,

I'm the author of MultiEx Commander, a tool that will enable you to open, extract from, and in many cases import into game resource archive formats. (183 formats supported today!)

http://multiex.xentax.com

We are always interested in adding support for more formats. If you have a question about game resource archives or you'd like your favourite game to be supported as well, we are always willing to take a look at it. This you can ask at our forums.

http://forum.xentax.com and go to the Game Request forum. We always like to help out, if possible.

Will there be support for Doom 3 and if so, does that mean we can play custom Doom 3 content on the XBOX?

Well, do you mean PC or XBox? I understand the PC and XBox version use different PK files? I should take a look at those files then. Perhaps you could attach one at the XeNTaX forum or a snippet of one (say the first and last 512 Kb of an archive) if they are too large. Then I can always download them from there and analyse them.

Of course I meant the XBOX.  I have editing tools for Doom 3 for the PC, but to make custom maps for the XBOX crowd...that would be just too sweet!!!

Yeah, there is no PK4 compression in doom 3.

It's some new map storage file that works with RADIANT Map Editors.

I believe it works like this:

PC
----
.MAP //PC Doom 3 Map file

XBOX
-------
.GOB //Xbox Doom 3 Map file
.GFC //Reference Texture and Shaders File

When I plug the xbox files into the pc RADIANT map editor, I get a Matching Token Not Found error or something along those lines.

Is there a chance that there is a registry fix file that you can install so that the .map files are listed as .gob files and would then be compatible with the XBOX?  I've seen this before with some other files where a file similar to a zip file uses a different file extension.

Well, thanks for the request on the forum, I have looked at the FPK file and it seems possible to extract resources from them. I will have to look at it in more detail though to be able to replace resources in there.

About Doom 3, as I don't have an XBox, I don't have these Doom 3 files.

It's simple to extract files from the FPK files using a hex editor and reading the offsets in the header.  It's a very simple header structure, which should be no problem for you.  ;)

It's been awhile since I messed with the game, since I became quite bored with it, since it sucks ass, but from what I remember, you should have no problems.  ;)

As long as Wrestlemania 21 turns out to be a good wrestling sim, I will most definitely be modding it, you can count on that.  ;)

If it isn't even 80% as good as No Mercy, I won't bother, and will easily become bored with it, and just keep working on improving No Mercy ala emulators.  ;)

Right now, the best modern day console game is DOR, but it is such a pain to mod Gamecube games, and since I don't own a PS2, nor do I ever plan on it, that cuts out all the PS2 games, of which KOC 2 is the best, and rivals No Mercy, yet the only thing better is the grappling system, everything else is not quite as good.  ;)

My only wish is that they would make The Wild Rings 2, with added grapple moves and a few more updates, and it would easily become the best wrestling game on any platform, and even be better than No Mercy.  Unfortunately, wrestling games never seem to make any improvements, and when they do, they always lack in other areas.  Hopefully, within the next few years, there will actually be a wrestling game that does everything that wrestling sim aficionados want in a game.

Can you look into the .glb files on Ghost Recon 2.  Most specifically the "map_name".glb files.  There is an extractor/injector for the ikedata.glb and it works for some others, but not the maps.  You can find this injector over at www.recon2mods.com if you want to take a look at it.  Thanks.
