Ninjahacket.net - Dead?

I don't think boss was named in the suit.  From chatting with other NH members, it seems like it's probably cypher and someone who ran another site on the same server, but we don't know for sure.

Until cypher is contacted, I don't think anyone really knows what's going to happen.

That sucks.  If anything, that site generated more publicity for Team Ninja's games than anything.

I was never big on DOA, but was very hopeful for some NG hacks.

Like TN's games or not, that really sucks.  NH and their crew were just having fun.  Team Ninja's a bunch of faggots (well, maybe not faggots -- they do like big-breasted women).

You don't see Bungie or Big Blue Box freaking out about people enhancing their games.

QUOTE(Sacrilego @ Jan 26 2005, 12:55 PM)
That's just really bad.
Are your registrar and provider records in order?
Because if not,  I would like to know who they are so that I can add them to my never recommend list.
They're supposed to foward to the website/domain/billing/technical contacts the information they recieved and the reason for termination.

It's also bad that they didn't even seem to try and point out to the contacts what the offending content was.

I'd be very surprised if there was any actual Tecmo source code there, and even more if by source code they reffer to hex screenshots and locations discussed in the forums when reverse engineering their games.

They have money and will use this to their advantage and I bet they're gonna try to get them to settle and use this as an example to stop others from trying to do the same.

I've lost a lot of respect for TECMO now, not because they're trying to protect their IP, but the way it was aproached.

Does anyone know who got sued?
Cypher and Boss?

***Edit***
ok, I'm looking at cypher's signature and it links to ninjahacker, I guess cypher shutdown the site himself untill he finds out what's going on?

this is going to be the last time I buy tecmo games if this is true  :grr: I PAID FOR THE GAME I CAN MOD IT DA#$#$@ and if they dont like it then dont sell it!!!!  :grr:    :grr:

no, i know the guy that's hosting it for me and i elected to shut down the website myself upon hearing news of the alleged lawsuit.

the other person mentioned in that quote is in fact my friend who has absolutely nothing to do with this and i am very sorry to have dragged him into it.  if it comes to it, i will probably elect to take care of his fine as well as mine.

i'm just praying that this isn't as big of a deal as i am making it.

The "source code" includes the use of any in-game models, screenshots, and video from the game outside of the running game. Even the captured videos I did of all the girls wearing the Venus - which I did gain by actually playing the game according to "the rules", long before I sought any sort of mod info - are a violation of their License Agreement.

Itagaki needs to get his head out of his ass and realise that not everyone is totally happy with just oohing and ahhing over the structured format of the game's contents - that there's tons of us out here in Paying Customer Land who want to work directly with the models, and modify the game code to suit our personal wants.
How does Tecmo lose money if I change the textures in a game?
How does Tecmo lose money if I make 3D images of the models I extracted from a disc that I bought?
I work with a guy that said he'd BUY the game when he found out I could get him a nude hack! That's MONEY in Itagaki's pocket!
Oh wait, it's ok for HIM to perv out with the in-game models but not us?

Yeah I'll be there for DOA4, and I'll rip everything out of it that CAN be ripped, and there'll be 3D porn-a-plenty using Itagaki's "precious babies".

Itagaki made the List Of Sh1t, debuting at #1.

This is Xmax (yes I know, I was a temporary exile, but it doesn't mean I quit reading the forums and caring about NH last destiny ;) ).

I'm really sorry about what's happening to our beloved place, and I also would like to offer all my help!

And, I don't believe there have actually been such an offending post in the last days/weeks (and I'm a very careful reader, especially the coding sections).

I'm guessing that this action has instead been triggered by the increasing popularity of NH: one year ago NH had only some hundreds members, and it was sort of a "niche". Lately, it was reaching about 10,000 registered members.

mmm... at a closer look, $100,000 divided by 10,000 equals $10. It seems there *is* a way we all Ninjahackers can help cypher!!! ;)

Anyway, see you soon (alive and hacking).

P.S. someone remembers DiZZY's email address? (my fault: I didn't take a copy from the forum personal data and I had some on-going discussion w/ him through NH PMs) - if any of you does, may you PM or email it to me via this forum? TIA

hes right (in a weird sort of way) we bought the game so were technically allowed to edit code and things to our personal referance. we bought that code for our own personal use, its not like were sending the game over the internet. we were figuring out how to personalise our OWN GAME THAT WE PAID MONEY FOR!!!!!!

its funny that a fairly small computer game company, sues a guy for legally personalising his own game that he purchased! but when it comes to piracy on bit torrent, kazaa and othere forms of p2p, they let that slip thru there fingers n say "o well". if anything cypher i would take them to court! see how them bitches like that!

infact, the things that were goin on at the website were making the game more popular, if it wasnt for u, doa games and other games would not be so popular thanks to u. THEY SHOULD BE GIVING U MONEY!

anyway thats my personal opinion!

I bought DOA3 when it came out, played it a while and watched all the jiggling boobies and lesbian innuendo, then put it away.
I bought DOAX almost a year after it came out just because I was bored, but knew there was going to be jiggling boobs and lesbian innuendo.
The games were good, but certainly not "spectacular" by any means.
The REAL fun to be had, and the reason I bought DOAU, was because of the modding. Period. XBV is not a stunning volleyball game, it's cheesecake. DOA3 had great graphics, but Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken were better fighting games.
DOA has hot chicks, that's it. The storyline was always more confusing than it was worth, and the multi-tiered arenas was only entertaining for so long.
The CORE of the game, and the most-important reason to buy or even rent the game, was to look at the women.
If Itagaki doesn't think so, let him make DOA4 with just the guys and see if he sells more than 2 copies.

Piracy is one thing, and I'm flat against someone downloading a game rather than buying it, but there was nothing on NH that amounted to piracy. Reverse-engineering? Yes. Data extraction? Yes. Modifications to existing code? Hell yes.
Did Team Ninjerks or Itagagme lose any money because of it? Not a damn cent.

Tidus_Beta - From a legal standpoint, we did not buy the code on the disc, we bought a copy of a disc containing a copy of proprietary code. Technically we can't edit the code because it's not ours, however, if you address it from a practicality standpoint, there was no way to cheat anyone out of money by doing so, nor could one cheat on XBL with it, which is a big concern. Given that no one lost money on it, no one was physically harmed, and sales did not drop as a direct result of the info on NinjaHacker, I fail to see how there was any wrongdoing other than breach of contract.
Will sales drop as a result of blindly suing people over this sort of thing? I damn well hope so. Money talks, and nothing speaks louder than customers who won't buy.

Hopefully if this goes to court the judge that hears it will look at it from a practical standpoint and not just the Letter of the Law.

You can count on me giving you some cash, Cypher.  I was more or less a lurker downloading all the stuff.....and I was just starting to get in to doing my own mods....but I DLed a ton of stuff, and it would only be fair to throw in some cash.

Anyway, I think we unfortunately now need to turn to alternatives.  I know there were other DOA hacking communities...of course nothing to the caliber of NH.  But what can we do now?  I'm assumimg NH will be down for a while, so does anybody know about other places?  How about setting up a bit torrent site?  Xbox-saves.com still has costume mods and stuff, right?

Anyhow, I won't be purchasing Tecmo-related products brand new anymore.  I'll only buy them used.  That way, Tecmo won't receive a red cent.

Hey Cypher, hope everything works out for ya, even if we dont get NH back I hope you dont get fined, but if so I would be more than willing to donate what I could, as I am sure many other members would. I also agree with the boycoting Tecmo, we wouldnt make much of a dent if any, but i think its more of a point of pride than anything else.
again, hope everything works out for you and your friend. Keep us updated  ;)
