Yep, the site's shut down (temporarily I hope) because tecmo "thinks" some of their source code was posted on Ninja Hacker.

I don't think it's true, but it sure sucks either way.

Here's what I got from the webmaster there:

"Two alleged computer hackers, ------------ and ----------, have been sued by
Tecmo Inc. for copyright infringement in Chicago Federal Court. Defendants
allegedly maintain an Internet message board, www.ninjahacker.net, where they
have posted modified versions of plaintiff's source code for public
downloading."

sad.gif  This is pretty depressing. Hopefully not the end though. I think there are enough of us around that would like to continue things in some form...  ph34r.gif

If that's true, that's pretty weak. That site was pretty adamant about not posting actual game files, only patches or methods to modify said files. And what they were doing was great- I think everyone there loved the DOA games, and were only looking to get more out of them, and show their appreciation for Team Ninja's work. It was truly a fan's site, with no harm intended to Tecmo or their IP.

Tecmo seems to have trouble seperating their fans from their enemies. They are also clearly overprotective of their work, right down to that obligatory legal warning I have to sit through when I boot up one of their games.

 Tis a shame.

oh man do i feel dumb. i moved last week and all my pc's and xbox's are still packed in boxes, i didn't download the latest skins that they posted for DOAU. Now I probably wont be able to see them on my xbox ever  :o

unless NH is brought back. :fingers crossed:

btw i think some of those files can be found on xbox-saves.com, if someone can be kind enough to post all (non-source code material of course) skins there, it'd be great...

That quote came from courthousenews.com on monday 1-24-05

I have yet to get any official statement from Tecmo, so i have no idea what kind of shit i'm sitting in...  I'll make sure to keep you guys updated.

I don't know how responsable I am for the content found on my message board.  I did not post any such code myself, and i was unaware that anyone else had...  This could be anything from a slap on the wrist to a $100,000 fine.  Only time will tell.

As always, thanks for your support.  It's been a fun 2 years and hopefully it's not over yet.

That's just really bad.
Are your registrar and provider records in order?
Because if not,  I would like to know who they are so that I can add them to my never recommend list.
They're supposed to foward to the website/domain/billing/technical contacts the information they recieved and the reason for termination.

It's also bad that they didn't even seem to try and point out to the contacts what the offending content was.

I'd be very surprised if there was any actual Tecmo source code there, and even more if by source code they reffer to hex screenshots and locations discussed in the forums when reverse engineering their games.

They have money and will use this to their advantage and I bet they're gonna try to get them to settle and use this as an example to stop others from trying to do the same.

I've lost a lot of respect for TECMO now, not because they're trying to protect their IP, but the way it was aproached.

Does anyone know who got sued?
Cypher and Boss?

***Edit***
ok, I'm looking at cypher's signature and it links to ninjahacker, I guess cypher shutdown the site himself untill he finds out what's going on?
