Switching Hard Drives
« on: July 03, 2013, 10:04:00 AM »

Hi, i'm a newbie  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have a modded original xbox but want to upgrade the HDD. My issue is this. I don't have spare PC with an IDE cable so how do I go about transferring the files on the "old" hdd (XBMC etc) onto the "new" hdd.?

Many thanks

The method that has worked for me is Chimp2618 LUD (Linux Utlility Disc)

All you need is a Molex power splitter or separate supply to power the new HDD and that's about it. You can find the best tutorial I know here:-

As long as the new HDD is lockable and (rarely an issue now) your softmod has support for upgrading to HDDs larger than 137GB, if applicable, then Chimp is still the simplest choice. No PC required except to get hold of Chimp2618 and burn it to disc (DVD-R) of course.

Or use chimps as an xbox app from within the dashboard, evox/ unleashx/ xbmc etc.

Can Chimp2618 be installed as an app now? I don't know as I've not cloned a Xbox HDD for several years but at the time the LUD method was recommended.

You do need Chimp2618 if you're working with a v1.6 Xbox but otherwise, yes, an earlier version of Chimp can be used as an app from the Xbox dash instead of using a disc.
