Messed Up Icons For Xport Emus?
« on: October 19, 2005, 05:38:00 PM »

Okay, did a search, but kept getting board messages saying either nothng was found or the server was too busy, so i'm just going to post as i don't have a lot of time to read.

I've got several xport emulators on my xbox system, and i've noticed that several emulators show up with the wrong icon in my dashboard.

i know that deleting a certain save game file will fix the issue...but when i next go into the emulators, it happens all over again.

The 2 Xport emus who's icons "take over" the others are LynXbox and XBoyAdvance.  The emus that are affected include:

LynXbox
XBoyAdvance
FCEUltraX
NeoGenesis
pcsxbox

most of the time, XBoyAdvance takes over LynXbox, FCEUltra, and itself.  This time around, LynXbox took over all of the listed emus' icons.

can anyone help?

thank you

Depending on what dashboard you use, you can place your own icon in the same directory as default.xbe and name the icon default.tbn and it'll override whatever "default" icon that it is picking up.

I use XBMC, and my odyssey2 icon was always showing up in place of a few others, but this trick fixed it right up.

search for xbmc icons and you can find ready to use icon packs for all the emulators, some of them even from me!

Ive never used unleashx before, so I don't know if it supports filename.tbn formatted pics or not.

I think there are some .xbe dumper programs out there that you'd run on your PC that'll let you pull images from the file itself. If not there certainly should be one-it would be incredibly easy to do since the image is just sitting in the header.

Maybe do some searching on .xbe extractor programs to see what's out there.
If you could get it to display in XBMC, you could also do a screenshot and then cut everything but the icon down in photoshop.

what size do the icons need to be, or what is the typical size?

also, in unleashx, it doesn't matter where you put the image or what you name it.  you could have a folder of images and then to set each xbe to go with the image you want, you press start while its highlighted, go to edit item, go to icon and select the picture you want.  its a little harder than the other way, but everyone does stuff their own way sometimes.

found the answer to my own question.  xbx icons should be in 2^x. ex ( 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 etc.) so i do mine in 256x256.

Alright, this still doesn't solve the main issue....

Here's my directory setup:

E:\
-Apps
-Backups
-Emulators
-  -Arcade
-  -  -MAMEoX128
-  -  -FBAXXX
-  -Atari
-  -  -LynXBox
-  -NEC
-  -  -HugoX
-  -Nintendo
-  -  -FCEUltraX
-  -  -xSnes9x
-  -  -Surreal 64xxx
-  -  -XBoyAdvance
-  -Sega
-  -  -NeoGenesis
-  -Sony
-  -  -PCSXBox

When done this way, several of these emulators have their icon "overwritten" by the others.

Help would be MUCH appreciated.

ICON PACKS  are available for DL, you can put that folder in Xbox. then press START on emulator name in main menu, then select Icon and navigat to directory where Icon you want is. save and exit.

Will this work in both Unleash X and XBMC?

thanx!

I found the issue with these XPort emus and the messed up icons.

it seems that all the affected emus use the same TDATA and UDATA folders, and in that folder, the same icon file.

this normally wouldn't be a big deal, except that all the icon files are different, and it seems that only the last one will be "King of the mountain"

is there any way to make each emu use it's own TDATA and UDATA folders?

Lastly, UnleashX doesn't have an option to work with replacement icons.

thanx!

Yes it does. Use latest version.

Press START on Emulator name, then select edit, go to ICON, press A and look for the one you DL'd, or Press start and see if you can DL one straight from Dash. I just did it right now for my friends Xbox.

UnleashX V0.38.0515 Build 565

Hmm...i am using the latest non WIP version...will have to check again

EDIT:

Yep...there was no option named "EDIT".  i'll try to update again with a newer version of UnleashX, but would you mind telling me what build your friend was using?

My version, from the usual places, is:

UnleashX V0.38.0515 Build 565
Version:   0.38 Build 565
Status      Alpha
Release Date:   05/15/2005

Make sure in the SETTINGS--SYSTEM--you have

ALLOW MENU EDIT set to YES.

Did that...when i add an icon to any of the emulators and then save, UnleashX crashes out, restarts, and the icon doesn't change.

It works fine for XBMC and other items, but not for the emulators.  I found a workaround, by seeing what changes were made to the XML, so i can now do it, but it is annoying to do it this way.

Are there any other icon packs?

thanx for the help
