How To Burn A Sega Cd Properly?
« on: April 04, 2005, 12:33:00 AM »

ok, I have a working version of Sonic CD that runs good on my PC sega CD emu. well, i wanted to be able to play it on my xbox, so i tried burning it any way i could in a few different formats, but neo genesis always loads it as an audio cd. Before I go through another 20 discs experimenting, is there a pinned giude somewhere on the best format?  right now i'm dealing with 1 bin file and the rest are .mp3 files. any help would be greatly appreciated. <

Why are you doing that??

From the ReadME:

" - Runs real Sega CDs that you put in your XBox DVD drive or it can
read ISO/MP3 and BIN image files"

If you have the original, why not just use it?

.
Oh... you DON'T have the original.

Try converting the image to an iso, vi a program call "ultra iso" it's the only one i have found that works. Make sure the mp3s are named like this.
Sonic CD.iso        <---- This is considered Track 01
Sonic CD 02.mp3 <---- This being the first mp3 audio track
Sonic CD 03.mp3 <---- Notice how all mp3 tracks have 2 digits for the numbers.
...
Sonic CD 11.mp3
Sonic CD 12.mp3

And so on...
Hope this helps. <

i've got a problem with sonic cd too. i initially had the original us version of the game and it would play fine on an older version of neogenesis. then i gave the game away and downloaded it (jap version) as iso/mp3's. playing it as an image worked until i upgraded the emu and since then it hasn't worked. problem is, i can't get hold of the older versions (only v11+).
recently, i got hold of sonic cd (us) as a bin/cue combo and again it doesn't work. here's what happens:

1) game boots to cd-rom screen. when i press start, the game starts to load then says the cartridge ram is not formatted
2) i reset the game and format the cart ram from the cd-player screen. then i start the game again
3) it shows the sega logo (with the animated sonic) and then there's a black screen. the xbox freezes (the type of freeze that causes the console to reset when the drive is ejected)

i turned on the on-screen led's to see what was happening but it doesn't prove anything - the thing just freezes <

Sounds like your bin is messed up. Try converting it to an iso with Ultraiso.
I had the same thing happen with my Sonic CD.iso where i had to reset the ram cart and then it worked 100% check out my Sega CD comp thread in the emulator fourms, as i have tested alomst every usa release <

You want to be using a program named Sega Cue Maker. Google for it and thou shalt find.

Basically you get the mp3 files, convert to wav, use sega cue maker to create a cuesheet for the iso and all the wavs in sequence, then burn with nero or whatever CD burning tool you wish.

If you didn't understand any of that, don't bother. <
