Installing The Faster Processor
« on: November 28, 2004, 12:22:00 PM »

I love to play mame and some PSX roms.  But as you can tell in this forum, there are problems.  Some problems I've read about can't be fixed by just adding more ram.  However I haven't seen anyone post about the faster processor.  Would this improve the quality of emulation? What are the pros and cons of getting the faster processor?  <

Joey Joe Jo?  Thats the worst name I ever heard.

I tried installing more ram and fried my box.  After that happened, I installed my smartxxv2 in a new xbox and haven't opened it back up since.  I ain't touchin the insides anymore.

I don't know a whole lot, but I would think a faster processor would just give you faster bugs.  But then again, I'm not a hardware guru.

I'm glad I could help you...  Or did I?  <

i see two choices

i)kill your box
ii)wait for more optimised code

I like option ii more :)
The factory fitted cpu is more then capable of running pre-2000 machines at proper speed, it just will take code optimisations to make the most of it for the more complex machines. those optimisations will come naturally with further revisions just the way pc emulators have/do. And they happen to be risk free :)  <

It actually would be a big gable. The joy of xbox is that the hardware is just like everyone elses. So code gets optimized and you can run DOA3 on 64 megs of ram and so on. Up'ing the CPU would A) Be a BITCH! B) Might take a long time for a bios that supports it.

If you want to play Mame and PSX emus, use a pc for the time beign or try a new emulator.  <

OVERCLOCK IT!
I would just try to overclock the processor. If you did this you would also need to make your your fan faster to keep your Xbox nice and cool. B) Heres a link to a web site (my site) with the fan mod. nubsinc.com. As for the over-clocking I have never done it but you'll figure it out. Maybe i will try it and show how to do it on my site. <
