Game Save With Retail Disk

Hi,

I've managed to sort out getting my xbox to boot from a retail disk but cannot see the game saves whilst in the game. I can see the game saves in the unleashed dash and in XBMC (running as an application). Am I missing a trick? I've tried searching the forums, but keep finding game save exploits, I just want to access my game saves from the original game.
