Multiple Hdd Setup

Has anyone completed a multiple HDD setup before?  I have made a ribbon cable to support 3 HDDs and when only one HDD is connected to the cable, it boots up fine, but as soon as 2 HDDs are connected to the cable (only one powered) the box doesn't detect a HDD at all!
Here's the setup I have:
Xbox version 1.0
DuoX2 modchip
Slayers Evox ver 2.6
Updated Bios to 4981.06

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
