Formatting a drive with evox only takes a couple seconds....
I take it you have a modchip in there???  You dont need to have anything on the harddrive for it to boot from the dvd drive.  If it booted with that disk before, it should still do it... unless you are trying to say that you formatted your softmodded box.... then thats a whole different story....

the drive is unreadable in the xbox, as soon as I formatted and rebooted I get the same error code and "contact manufacturer" or whatever it says when you have no hdd in at all.  my concern now is how to get this drive reading again in the xbox so that I can try again.

If all you did was format the drive.....what are you expecting it to read in the xbox...there is nothing on it!!!!..... and it will still boot from dvd..it'll boot with a hardrive made from pancake batter if your chip is working... so if it isnt, check that shitty spiderchip to make sure its seated correctly.

As i stated earlier, if all you did was format the drive.... what are you expecting it to read??  The drive has no dash etc on it.

A drive formatted in an xbox will always show up as unreadable on a pc OS.

So it boots fine with original drive??  To the m$ dash.  Of course it does.  Does that mean your chip is working???  Nope.  Tell me it boots slayers w/ the original drive... then i will believe your modchip is working.

hey strictpuppet,
you sure aren't helping very much, if you would have read my earlier post you would have seen that with this harddrive, it won't boot cd's.  Not because the chip isn't working but because the hdd isn't working.  I originally installed evoX on the stock hdd and run XBMC as my dashboard.  To format the new hdd for the xbox I used EvoX and it went through the formatting process and when it rebooted it suddenly was fragging on the hdd.

anyway, I just noticed that one of the pins on the connector for the IDE cable was pushed back and it the solder was broken.  it must have worked just long enough for me to format the drive and then the pin isn't connecting.  This explains why my PC sees it but won't read it or do anything with it.  I will try to resolder the pin and let everyone know what happens.

A bent IDE pin would make a hard drive pretty much not work....

although it still wouldn't work even if the pin wasn't bent.

Formatting the drive does go by quickly....and all it does is erase the partitions....so nothing is "technically" on the drive. so there is nothing for your drive to boot to and hence, you would still get that error code. you would need to actually put xbmc or evox or whatever on the drive and make sure that your bios points to it to boot.

I guess I am going to throw in the towel, thanks for the suggestions with the software from the manufacturer, I had already tried that and none of it works.  It's strange to me because everything worked while it was in my computer.  Anyway, I think I've exceeded my opportunity cost with this drive and certainly with this forum, I seem to get more grief than help.  Anyway, I guess I'll go back to the old fashion way of figuring things out all on my own.
