How Can I Get Any Files Played On Xbmp 2.0?
« on: June 01, 2004, 02:58:00 PM »

Hi, I bought a modded xbox a few months ago. the mod chip is the evolution-x, i bought the device with all software already installed, i've never conected my xbox with my pc and i dont intend to if i can avoid it.
The pre-installed programs were:
Xbox DVD Player
Xbox HDD Loader
Xbox Media Player 2.0

I've no problems with the dvd player and the hdd loader, but i cant use my mediplayer. I#ve read loads of user manuals in the last hours, but i cant find the answer to my problem which is pretty basical.
I simply cant play any files at all on my xbmp. on starting the program, i find myself on the xbmp main screen which reads my music, my pics, my videos and settings. when i open the folder "my videos", i m already getting stuck. there are several submenues, but none where i can just select my dvd drive and the divx file or the avi-file on my cd.
i also tried to save the video file on my hard disk with the hdd loader. this wasnt possible because the hdd loader didnt recognize my cd-r.

what do you suppose? as far as i can see, there are these possiblities listed below:
a) I'm just too dumb for xbmp. if thats the case, (what i hope) what teh hell am i doing wrong?
B) my xbmp program is defect (if thats possible)
c) i need a additional program. if thats the case, what do i need?
d) i read several things about iso 9660 mediums that may cause problems with xbmp. what is a iso9660 medium? is it possible that all video cds and divx files that i tried are such mediums?what can i do to avoid this problem?
e) my xbpconfig.xml file could be incorrect. do you think that could be a reason? how do i fix that problem?

help me and i'll bless you with eternal gratefulness  ;)

Why do you want to avoid connecting your X-Box to your PC? It's very convienient, all you need is a FTP program like FlashXP and a Cat5 Crossover cable... No need to waste disks...

Your particular drive prolly just doesn't read CDRs.

With that in mind, you got two choices.  Open up the config.xml and find out where it's looking for video/audio on the HD and put your video/audio there.  Or, change the config.xml so it looks where you want to put them.

Either way, you gotta get at that xml file and the only way to do it is to network the xbox and ftp into it ;).

Okay...

You xbox and play all those media files, but can read all the media.  I've never seen an xbox read a cd-r.  Others have... but the 7 boxes I've modded, not a one would play it.  If you change the media to dvd-r's all those apps should work good, but you still need to ftp to your xbox.  It makes setting up the directory structure so much easier than using like boxplorer.  I'd say get in the habit of ftp'in to your xbox, and read up on sharing with XBMP

First off, your dvd drive probably doesn't read cd-r....it must be a thompson or philips drive. So,you are now limited to transfer your stuff by means of FTP. Either that,or find a samsung,or someone who has a samsung and get them to rip the gear to their xbox and transfer the stuff to yours with an app like toolbox or avalaunch.

Now,you said that you get confused when you get into the FTPing part of things....well the easiest way to see things is this.
When you transfer anything into your XBMP folders (pictures, music, videos, files) it'll be located in the HDD(hard drive) folder in the menu of your XBMP. All the other folders are for things like servers and streaming from your PC.
So,if you transfer a song into the 'MUSIC' folder in your XBMP,when you go into the menu on your box (on the TV) you'll find that song by going to MUSIC then to HDD(hard drive)

Either way follow these words....if you don't know what it is,don't touch it.....and by all means BACK IT UP!!!!
