Seeking within files has been a problem for as long as I can remember. It's a bit hit and miss. Might depend on the sync/key frames inserted into an encoded video file?

THen again I might be talking balls as I am no DivX/Xvid expert :-)

Ive just downloaded the.haunted.mansion.DVDrip.xvid-brutus.avi and have ftp'd it onto my XBOX but when I play it all I get is the audio and a black screen. Its the first video file Ive ever had that XBMP wont play - so how can I update the codecs ?!

My only & first suggestion is you get a prog for windows called barename , you can find it in the usual places.

What your problem is jlgman, I belive is the file name it self. The fatx32 that xbox uses is strangle about file names. The program that I mentioned will rename any file you want to an xbox friendly name.
Goodluck.

XBMP doesn't have the xvid codec, try XBMC.. it might suck, but at least it plays xvid.

i had this problem with one of my backed up movies, at first i thought it was a codec problem, but then i tried this wee bit of software FourCC changer it allows you to change the FourCC code of avi movies. Try opening your movie and giving it a familiar code such as DIVX, well hope that helps you it did the trick for me.

If the download link doesnt work goto divx/software/misc/

or you could try the new xbmc because you can upgrade it's codecs. I used to use both to play different movies but haven't had to open xbmp since the last release of xbmc
