I believe I've got the same problem... I don't know for certain, because it only seems to happen when I'm playing big playlists of music, and I only do that when I'm lying down in bed.. I wake up in the morning to see the Xbox frozen up, so somewhere, it locked up on me.  I originally thought maybe it was one of my mp3s that caused that problem, but it doesn't seem to be it.

Love to hear if anyone else is experiencing this.

Overheating would just 'shut the xbox off' and Not freeze in xbmp...Right?

I had the same thought, but the unit never over heats, and wasn't running hot when I crashed last.  (heat checked from XBMP ->Settings -> system)

I can tell you that it's most likely not overheating.  I run xbmp damn near 24 hours a day with mp3s running constantly with a 120 gig HDD in there and I have no heat problems.  I'd look into flashing your bios to the latest, which is 4981, and double checking your playlists cause i've had a shitty playlist lock up my xbox countless times.

ok...  I'm a n00b.   What makes a playlist "Sh&tty"?  I've shuffled my mp3s then saved as a playlist.  Is that bad?

Would that effect shoutCast?

Thanks again,

A "Shitty" playlist can happen if you create the playlist on your PC and when you are transfering the files over to your Xbox one or more of the files cannot be transfered due to the length of the filename.  So the playlist is missing a file and that in turn screws up your playlist.  Also renaming an mp3 after creating the playlist can fuck one up good too.

*Edit*  About shoutCAST (or however it's spelled)  shoutCAST is a bit flakey.  I've had it lock up on me before and sometimes it'll run for days and days.  If the lockups are consistant try updating the BIOS like I said earlier.

I also forgot to ask the most important question.  Are using the latest version from the usual places?  Cause that could also be causing the problem.

I can't speak for the other guy, but I know that I created my playlists by means of XBMP itself, just hitting the "Y" button to add each individual song to the playlist, and then shuffling them up real good before saving (I like variety, so I don't like two songs by the same band in a row.. I'm odd like that)

Sooooo, it sounds that my playlists are likely just fine. Perhaps I do have a bad MP3 or two... Wish there was an easy way of determining this...

The details are:
X2.3pro w/ latest Bios

Xbox Media Player "2.4+"
Build: 27 Oct. 2003 17:30

New info:
Now crashs after a few songs....  only with Visualation on.   If the Vis is running it crashes after about 5 songs now.  It doesn't seem to matter what the playlist is, or which MP3s.

With Vis OFF:  the seems to work fine.

Any ideas?  I love XBMP for the quality Visualisations, but I'm not sure what happened to make it buggy.  I've used this build exclusively since modding the box in January and the Visualizations worked fine for a month or or two.

thanks

Mine seems to crash with large (mine have around 1000 songs) saved playlists.

Ive also found not using the visulisation stops the crashes.

Can't be any kind of overheat surely because my sceen just goes blank (no response from controllers) and the xbox stays on.

Is the general guidline not to have Giant playlists?  I have ~11gigs of music on the F drive, and like to shuffle all...  but is that too much to ask of XBMP?
