I have a 1.6 I do believe, and a buddy bought mine after I did and he too has this problem, I returned my first one and 2nd was same.

The FAN is way too loud...  

I took my Xbox apart and discovered nothing I could reasonably LUBE and if I disconnected it, the Xbox crashes after about 10 mins, so I see it is needed!  BOO! ;)

What's the fan specs I need if trying to replace?

I didn't recognize the 2 pin connector....   Any specific model recommendation and/or links with pics/sales for one would be a great help.
I have a Fry's very close to me as well for part if available.

At this time I have not mod'd or anything, just took the noisy SOB apart, hoping I could easily remedy it...

Once again Billsoft let me down...  the damn fan I can hear over the games I am playing, really annoying!

80mm computer fan, will need some modding to make fit.  The 2 pin connecter you are seeing is just a standard connector without the fanspeed monitor pin.  You can either use 12v line to power the fan but is only slightly quiter than stock.  Get one with a 3 pin and connect it straight to the board and its quiet as.

you don't really need to do all the stuff that guy did, just cut to fit for an easy solution and plug into the connector.

Btw if fan I get has 3 pin holes, which one goes unused?  

Wire color as answer would do nicely!   8)

It says the stock fan is 7 volts, but a 12 volt one will still work fine?

I took it apart and removed the fan, managed to get it out without break the plastic hold it in at the bottom, then broke them off, and the fan I have 80 by 80mm is too big, there is no way in hell this can fit...

I'm in need of one roughly 5mm smaller, any ideas?  I will leave my X-Box apart and return the fan, I got at fry's tomorrow....

12V 3.2watt  
Custom shape of sorts and an obviously cheap POS.

The 80mm one is length wise a NO way Jose!  Height wise this custom fan in it has 3mm feet that block the holes in the case and so the actual height I have to really deal with is 76-77mm.   Width wise stock fan is 25mm, I have 2mm of fudging room there I think.

I may have to stick a good 60mm in here?   The blades on the Sunon are 64mm, can I make that compromise?   I'll be taking my measurements and measuring device with me tomorrow.

dude, read what people post. there is small amout of modding needed to get it to fit. i have done it, so have just about everyone else around here.

its not hard, give it a try

It's 5mm too wide, PC board is in the way and it's a little to high as well, I don't see any easy solution with the fan I bought, and looked at that link I was giving and read all the responses...

His internals are not my internals, IT CAN'T BE DONE with what I have atm.

The main problem?  I have a large round resistor between where the fan was and my CPU's heatsink...  that and the gap between my main PCB and the power supply PCB is only 75mm.  Where can I magically create 5mm+?  

I have a later modeled unit, it's clearly different and it had a cheap 12V fan IN it, which might explain why it's so damn noisy.   8)

Since the last replier gave me some grief...

I took the tin foil like lining out and the fan is still way too big even with it EMPTY, you'll have to take my word for it.    

If it wasn't I would have been done a while back and not typing this...

I am not blind or retarded either, so my judgement is final.  8)

and im saying you a dick. if its an 80mm fan (which you said it was), then just cut a bit from the fan, and a bit from the hdd tray, and it will fit.

if your that fuckign stupid, head on over to the tut section and look at the replacing fans section.

I finished up and it's much better, I bought a 60mm fan and it's directly against the plastic back, I cut out the entire tin foil lining from the area.

I used a 1.1W 28.6db 3600RPM fan, no sawing needed, just what I had hoped for....

80mm fan:

1. Cut large chunk out of HDD tray (same size as length and depth of the fan)
2. Cut large chunk out of the front left side of the fan housing (for clearance with the DVD dray post)
3. Cut small chunk out of bottom left side of fan housing (clearance with motherboard)

plus then you can put one of those cool led fans in there  cool.gif

I didn't have all the tools required, $ to burn, and desire to go that far, I am pleased with what I myself came up with, I don't have a workshop, or know anyone that does, so this was the best I could do with my limited resources.
