Weird Internet Problem
« on: May 18, 2006, 02:01:00 PM »

firstly this has been a problem with every t3ch build I have used. I am currently on the 4-11-06 release. I really dont think its an issue with xbmc but maybe. when I first turn on my xbox I can ftp just fine immediatly and oddly enough my rss feeds work immediatly also but..... weather, or anything else that requires internet access (any script ie; launch 1.9, quicktime browser etc..) needs to wait like 2-3 minutes before I get ANY outside internet access. I usually just wait till I can get the weather to show up before I start messin around with launch or whatever that way I know when its working. I am connecting thru a linksys befw11s4 with a direct cat-5 cable and am on a cable connection. I have also enabled dmz on the static ip addy for my xbox so as to give 100% unrestricted access to the net for the xbox. and im pretty well stumped on this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I did also try to turn off internet time synchronization, rss feeds, and weather to see if I get instant net access but also to no avail. (also tried numerous other network settings including dhcp)

unrelated question2:

if I try to load up a streaming vid from launch or quicktime or whatever I can usually tell right away if its gonna play or just plain fail (by looking at the blinkin lights on my chip) when I know its not gonna play one would think they could just hit cancel and go on to the next one... not in my case hitting cancel will usually freeze my xbox or wont do anything at all ( I usually have to wait till whatever streaming content im trying to play just times out) the really sucky part is if it freezes my box I havta reboot it and wait the damn 2-3 mins to get net access again!! any idea why I cant just cancel something? Is your xbox overheating?  This could cause the slowness.

nope its not intermittent at all and overheating isnt a problem (espescially when it happens every single time I reboot or first turn it on)

hmm bad dns. well im using the one from my isp (68.2.16.30) also to try and troubleshoot I booted into the ms dash and all my internet settings where the exact same there. ill share them here

ip (static), 192.168.1.102
subnet mask 255.255.255.0  (same as setup in my router)
default gateway 192.168.1.1  (same ip as my router)
primary dns 68.2.16.30
secondary dns 68.6.16.30
my third dns from isp is 68.1.208.30 and I have also tried this one as my primary but to no avail.
I also tried to use the automatic config in ms dashboard but that didnt work either.

(update)also if I boot into avalaunch I get the exact same time delay until I have internet access, for like getting skins and downloading save games but the damn rss feed works right off the bat!

anyone have any clues out there? remember everything (including internet) all work fine after about 2-3 mins (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

sorry to bump an old dead topic. but I promised to post on here what the problem was in case I ever found it. so here goes... trying to view streaming media on both my pc's would lock up my router (mms and asx files specifically) so that pretty much screamed to me that my router was waaaaay messed up. firmware update didnt help as I was using the newest one already so I just went and bought a new one. tada everything works perfect now and I can easily see now why nobody had a clue about this one! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

so the lesson here is if the problem is weird as shit like this and NOTHING will fix it....throw out the router (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
