200g & 10g Dual Hdd Problems
« Reply #15 on: March 18, 2005, 03:02:00 AM »

i have a tut that a guy off here sent me to allow you to build a so called cable that works with every combination. But at the moment it doesnt seem to work.

He said it is supposed to be because of pin 1 and 29 and you need to use a switch for it to work.

What we have found out is that the smaller the second drive the more likely it is to work. it works with 20, 40,80 and 120 gig 70% of the time.

We have tried every jumper config and drive placement config.

the reason i want to stick with a stock wd or seagate as my 10 gig and not put in say the maxtor 10 gig that i have is because xbox live checks your hdd serial number with the kernal on your both with the database ms has and the last thing i want to do is do all this work and have it banned.

tut fron this guy on this post: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=344190

other of my post to find answers on this:

ok, i just tried this again. with my 200gb wd, it works with my normal cable, but it will not work when it is on the new cable, with no other drive connected (except dvd).

with yours Cossack1977, it works with teh big drive on, and no others doesnt it?
if so, does that mean my i have a problem with the cable.

if i try any hdd on the new cable it works by itself.

so the 200gig  works by it self and so does the 10 gig works by itself on on any connector.

with both hdd on the one cable the 200 will boot but any 10 comes up with an error 13 regardless of what connector i plus it into

so yeah my cable work easiest way to find out is just use your stock drive try it on the first free connecor then try it on the second if it boots fine on both connectors the cable works

xtender boxes have the same problem. the only thin they have is a switch which switches power to the drives they just use a 5 connector ide cable. If you read some of the post about them alot of people have the same problem. One guy set 3 of them up to worked the third didnt.

As i have found by reading the bigger the drive the more hassal.

Our cables work but the fuqing stock drives dont like the 200gig. We dont want to give up. But we might have to it looks like our new box coming up white iceing will be turned into be live box with the std drive and no chip and ill leave liquad metal as my media box. Shits me though with all the case modding and stuff it shits me

i know this really wont help, but im having the exact same problem. western digital stock 10gig and seagate 200gig. they both work individually on any plug, but which ever one is on the last plug wont ever boot (just differing error codes) if the other hdd is on the plug before it. and ive tried all combos of slave\master\ etc.  im hoping you get help because that would help me too.

BjTheClown and ferrari_rulz_02 send me a pm and ill send you a copy of the tut the guy did for his special IDE cable.

The cable doesnt seem to work for me but it might work for you.

When both drives are on the cable i can get the 200 gig to boot on any connector its the 10 gig i cant we have tried 4 different stock drives 2 wd and 2 seagates all 4 of them always come up with the same error error fuqing 13. if we leave the stock on the cable on any connector and pull the 200 gig seagate of any oh the stock drives will boot.

as far as im aware cs(cable select) will not work with 3 devices on the same cable
this is why:
http://www.pcguide.c...ide/conf_CS.htm

if you read through that link it tells you about CS.

The funny thing is if we boot with the X# chip on we can get into any stock drive through the OS but we turn the chip off and ERROR fuqing 13

Thats the only error we get

we have put atleast 30hrs this week in trying to work out why.

I DONT WANT TO GIVE IN

YES
YES
YES

WE GOT IT WORKING

As soon as we get the case back together HOZY will get onto this mod TUT.

Ok just for you guys that are having problems now.
We running it with a seagate 10gig stock and a seagate 200gig.
the 10 gig is set to master with non ata slave and the 200gig is set to master.

It wont work with my new 616t(FUQ) but i just swaped it for my Bro's second gen philips out of his crystal but as a temp where running the already modded Thompson.

Were running a 80cm ATA133 cable. The Stock drive is on the end connector.

ALL works.

I'm not sure if this helps, but when I was setting up my multiple HDD setup, I was having a similar problem.  When I booted from a W/D drive with no other drives on the cable, it booted fine.  When I connected another W/D drive to the cable, with or without power I got an error 08.  I know that it is a different problem than you are having, but I found as soon as I got rid of the W/D drives, everything worked fine.

I suggest you try some other drive brand combinations.
