the replacement cable may stop your xbox from catching on fire but it won't  fix ANYTHING.
the problem in the V1.0 xboxes is that the power socket is not secured, so it wobbles a bit every time you plug it in. this leads to the solder joints failing and an electrical arc occurring at those broken joints. this CAN cause an electrical fire. my friends xbox had a hole burned in to the board from that happening and he had the replacement cable...
luckily i could fix it with a bit of solder, some wire and lots of epoxy to stop the socket from moving

i think a similar thing happened to the guy who made this forum

Yeah the joints got disconnected for me as well.  My box started sparkin'.  So I just re soldered the connection and everything has been fine ever since.  Just lay some soldered if your having problems. Just keep checking it from time to time to assure its not getting lose again.

My xbox won't turn on anymore. My AC adapter has always been loose and i do hear sparking when i plug it in to the xbox rather than the wall. But my solder points look perfect and undamaged. Does this likely mean my AC adapter is done for and i should call Microsoft for a replacement?

If anyone is interested, I just called MS to get a replacement cord for an old xbox, and person told me they would not send me one, as console is out of warranty, but I could buy one from the retail store.
That's just awesome service  mad.gif

The original xbox has been out of production for about 4 years now. You really think you can get a free replacement cord now?

Hit up ebay or the b/s/t.

I got my two power cords. One arrived last Monday and one today. I've got a 1.0 Xbox and 1.3 with a Delta PSU. Both got me a Xbox Protection Cord, NA edition w/French sticker and manual section. Apparently, they still send out cords in Canada. Checked the product number and date codes and they're the exact same. I suppose they still have lots of those left.
