I use flux on all my solder connections and hot glue all the jtag points so they will not pop off down the road. I also insulate any bare wires so no shorting can occur. Jtag is done on the underside of the motherboard to prevent any accidental contacts to them incase you had to replace the dvd-drive laser or the whole drive in the future.

If you plan on buying a jasper, falcon, or zephyr make sure it has the SMC bug fix and TMS signal on AUD_CLAMP pin. The SMC bug fix prevent the random E74 error (the effect vary from console to console) and TMS signal on AUD_CLAMP pin stop the weird rings of light effects.

The basic differences in the revisions:
Jasper - latest revision, 65nm cpu & gpu chips so it runs very cool and almost zero chance for RROD.
Falcon - 65nm cpu and 90nm gpu chips so RROD can still occur due to gpu overheating (increase fan speed between 70-80% needed).
Opus same as falcon without HDMI output.
Zephyr - 90nm cpu & gpu chips so it runs very hot and RROD a lot (100% fan speed is a must).
Xenon - same as Zephyr but with no HDMI output

All consoles will come with the following unless you ask for some customizations:
-new SMC bug fix and TMS signal on AUD_CLAMP pin (this is a must have for any jtag owner).
-freeBoot.032 and XeLLous v1.0
-Liteon & BenQ DVD drives are flash with LT 1.1
-Bridge pin 2&3 of U6T1 or U6T2 (no longer removing R6T3 resistor) to prevent efuse blowing from updates.
-lpt port under the detachable hard drive for emergency use.
-default fan speed.
-CD with all your needed info on it and some useful apps to get you started.

Option:
You can add or upgrade to a detachable 500GB (I only use WD Scorpio Blue drives which have very high user reviews) for $70 more for the pro version and $100 for the arcade.

LPT cable is $10 more if you buy a console or $15 for cable if not buying a console.
