Has anything changed on your PC Network? I.e workgroup name, IP Address, Subnet Mask?

It sounds as if the Workgroup name has changed

When you say moved into your brothers house - has all of your network moved with you?

This error:

"NT STAUS OBJECT NAME NOT FOUND"

Suggests that the Xbox cannot see the workgroup at all, I dunno why it worked for an hour and then stopped.

Can you ping the xbox from your PC?

What IP Address' are the PC's on your lan using and what is their Subnet Mask set to?

not sure how to ping, im very new at this.

but i can use flashfxp and go to my xbox and what not.

but its weird, back in my apartment i sold my laptop and went to a desktop and i had the same problem when i switched but then i just restarted the computer and it worked fine from there on out.

but i did that here and nothing.

my computer shows the following:

ip address  192.168.1.100

subnet mask  255.255.255.0

default gateway  192.168.1.1 <

You know what, i have my SMB network running. it works great, accept i find that if i havn't tried to access my computer in a while, thats when i get problems like "NT STATUS.." i think its something about the way windows handles SMB requests like it has to reindex all the shares after a certain amout of time or something. <

i keep getting the same thing from time to time, i can access the comp fine from other comps and see the comps on the network just fine, the prob is only from the xbox

a reboot ususly does the trick for me though but lately it doesnt seem to work even after a reboot...

edit: i think i got it to work by goinng into control panel> admin tools> computer management > shared folders> shares

then click refresh

hope it helps

Go to start->run, type services.msc and press enter. In the services make sure that the "Computer Browser" service is running on at least 1 computer on your network, and then restart.

I had the same issue and that fixed it immediately. <

I think it may have something to do with not having a browermaster on the network, I could be wrong.

I always used direct mappings to shares  in my XBMC config. because the workgroup thing never worked for me.
But, I reinstalled my PC one day and it all work!
But then again, I find it more convenient to use the direct mappings.

One thing is for certain, its not XBMC's fault.

Try mapping an item directly to the share on your PC through the xboxmediacenter.xml file.( it has examples to follow)

Is there a  firewall enabled on your PC ?(i'm usuming they are xp/2000/9x)

hope this helps

Yup, I think the browser master is a possibility here.

That said, the comment that was made about making a direct share is an excellent idea - I have always made my shares like that and had no problems.

Basically you would have to share a folder on your pc (Which you have already done) and then change a share in xboxmediacentre.xml to something like this:

<path>smb://user:[email protected]./name of share</path>

You mean edit the xboxmediacenter.xml?

Dead easy, ftp that file to your computer and edit it with Notepad.

The developers left loads of comments inside to tell you what each bit does.
