Video Help
« on: March 31, 2005, 12:10:00 AM »

ok, here is the deal. I have a 400GB and a 320GB HD installed in my Xbox. The 400GB is just for movies, the other for Games/Emulators.

On my 400GB I only use it for XBMC and only use that for watching movies. Here is my dilema.

1. Stacking. I have been using XBMC since the beginning, and XBMP since the beginning of that. I have seen the growing pains along the way, but recently those pains have started to get worse. In the early days I discovered that instead of using -cd1, or anything like that after the title, I could simply use a space like "Dogeball .avi" and "Dodgeball.avi" for the second disk and it would stack just fine under simple mode. Somewhere along the line they changed the rules of "simple" so it no longer worked for me, but then "Fuzzy" came along that fixed my problems. Now, the last build I have that included "Fuzzy" is a 3-17 build. Anything after that is unusable to me as it scrambles all my movies, doesnt stack at all, and the second half is always the first file. I am not about to rename 400GB worth of movies. Anyone know how to resolve that problem for me in the newer builds without the "fuzzy" option?

2. Multiple Drives/Paths. In the .xml file it shows a nice example of how to add multiple folders to a single bookmark under the programs section, yet, when I try and add in the video section of the .xml <default>f:\movies\,g:\movies\</default> or even just a bookmark with both those folders I simply get the ".." folder on the screen and no movies. My question is, is there a way to have multiple movie folders under a single bookmark or is that feature solely used for programs?

1. In the latest build of xbmc (might still be in dev cvs only) there is a <regexp> tag in the xml. regexp (regular exspression) is how xbmc stacks movies. The syntax is not especially difficult. Simply learn how the syntax works, take a look at the examples and decide how you want to impliment your stacking. The reason why fuzzy was remove is because when scanning movies it would cause problems.

2. Multiple paths for bookmarks are only supported in my videos

Great! Thanks for the help. It's not often I have to ask a question on here anymore, usually search answers all, but those 2 I couldnt find the answer for. I will fix the sorting issue now thanks to your help.

The second part I am guessing you meant it only works in "Programs", you said Videos, which is probably a mistake but I understand. Hopefully they will add that feature to the rest of XBMC in the future.

I also noticed that the "fuzzy" option i video stacking is not there anymore in the latest build.  Now half of my movie collection will not run in continuous order.

I looked at what you mentioned:

  <videostacking>
    <regexp>[ _\.-]*part[ \.]*([0-9])*</regexp>
    <regexp>[ _\.-]*cd[ \.]*([0-9])*</regexp>
  </videostacking>

But have no idea what i would need to change to make it stack "fuzzy" again.

Any help is much appreciated.

Same here.  Having trouble with stacking as well.  I am missing the fuzzy option.

Google for regexp.  There's a wikipedia article that explains it, plus plenty of other info about.  Learn what the example regexps do.  Once you have that, do a regexp for the particular filenaming method that YOU use.

If you REALLY can't figure it out, then post the filenaming scheme you use, and perhaps someone with more time on their hands will post the regexps for you.

Fuzzy stacking will NOT be coming back, so don't bother asking.

Thanks for the reply.

A lot of my movies are in .vob files (VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc.)  Without the fuzzy stacking it will not stack them ontop of eachother, and play them continuously.  With simple stacking on, it just reduces the file name length(VTS 01 1, VTS 01 2, etc.), but does not stack them.  This is my problem.

Would renaming the files to something else possibly work?

You need to set up a regexp to take care of it.  Seeing as I'm in a tremendously generous mood, add:

<regexp>_([0-9])\.vob$</regexp>

That will stack the vobs in each vobset separately.  If you want all the vobsets stacked into one, just use

<regexp>vts_([0-9]+_[0-9])\.vob$</regexp>

Now, please google search and find out why these work, then go to the online manual (manual.xboxmediacenter.de) and add what you've learnt to the online manual so that others can be helped.

I've been generous with my time.  Now it's your turn.

Thanks, much appreciated.

I've been reading up on the regexp, and probably would have figured it out in about a week.  I'll still continue to study it so i can add more stuff.

Thanks again.

well, I am trying to figure this out, but its not as easy with using spaces.

example.

Sin City .bin
Sin City  .bin
Sin City   .bin

Any hints on that regexp string? I am still trying to figure it out.

Hmmm, seems you cant put multiple spaces on this forum. Let me try that again.

= space . I use spaces and hide the extensions so the title is correct instead of every movie having a 1 in the name and the rest stacked. For a 3 part movie it would look like this below. In the past "fuzzy" was the only stacking option that worked for my naming scheme.

Movie.bin
Movie.bin
Movie.bin

I spent at least an hour trying to figure it out to no avail. That wikipedia site wasnt much help. I understand the variables like [0-9] but I am not understanding what exactly the [ _\.-] does or the [^\.] at the beginning. On one site I read that you can use [space] for spaces but that ended up really screwing up all the names of the movies with a space in the title like "The Movie.bin" Am I really the only one that uses spaces and has this problem?
