24 Bit Audio Support
« on: March 26, 2005, 09:14:00 AM »

Hi everyone,

I have been doing some tests to see if I can get xbmc to play 48 khz 24 bit audio files through the digital out to my receiver.

The only one I got to work was a .wma file (wma version 9.0 codec lossless compression).

I know the mcpx chip in the xbox works at 24 bit internally, but I have read that it only outputs 20 bits via the optical digital out.

Can anybody confirm this?

If so this is still better than cd quality considering that at 48 khz the xbox does not have to resample and 20 bits is higher than the 16 bits of a cd...

This is actually a great way to test your own home music recordings for all of you musicians out there--without having to burn cds...

Cheers,
