Followed Instructions To Softmod To A T Now I Have 2 Errors.
« on: September 11, 2013, 03:24:00 AM »

Hey guys. Love the site. First time poster here. Been away from the scene for awhile injured my leg at work now Im back to hang....

Anyway....

I recently received a xbox so I decided to softmod it. Found a pack with instructions from another site, not sure if Im allowed to leave a link. Followed everything correctly and when I first booted the xbox I received an error 13. I decide to leave it for the morning turned it on again then got a new error, error 16.

.... so shitty.

Anyway last night when I first error 13 I googled and read that all I needed to do was a kernel/dashboard update and could be performed with a game in the tray. Realising I had a game in the garage I left it for the morning (didnt I fu%k up). So when I woke up this morning with my game in my hand hoping to fix my error 13 a new error popped up, error16.

So to my understanding error 16 occurred because my xbox went without power for several hours. So when I booted up in the morning the error 16 was present. Heres a quote taken from another site on what to do....

"...The trick (Posted Here First!!) is to simply unplug the cdrom drive from the ide cable, and boot the xbox normally, Instead of an error 16, you get an error 11, saying DVD drive not found. Interestingly, when you get an error 11, THE HARD DRIVE IS UNLOCKED BY DEFAULT!!! Now you can do the hot-swap method to read the hard drive on a computer. I downloaded xboxhdm and followed the instructions, after downloading the default dashboard files from another site. "

can someone confirm this. Is there another possible way?

Thanks guys.

3 things really.

1.
your hard disk isnt really unlocked by default with an error 11/12.
So you have to be fast if you use that method..
Pull the ide cable out as soon as you see the error screen.. (it is usuall to have the ide cable only in as far as it needs to be so its actually making contact with all the pins, and you dont fully insert it so removal ie easier and faster)

Its a bit awkward to do it right. Its all about the timing. You can try a preemptive removal of the ide cable just before the error pops up as well as the usuall 1st thing it pops up.

if your doing a hotswap on an xbox with no errors i wouldnt even remove the dvd cable. as the "microsoft" text that appears is a much better indecator of when the hdd is actually unlocked.

2.
You can make or buy an eeprom reader. with that you can extract the eeprom bin from the mother board and use that with xboxhdm to unlock and then re-lock your drive. "after you replace the files"

3.
You can just install a mod chip and then boot up a recovery dvd like hexen and fix it like that.

Truly am grateful for your response there Shambles.

So Ive googled your eeprom reader and found you can make the sucks. After seeing what was involved man I wouldnt know where or how to do half of that stuff. I found a guide on here site on how to make one by idotfans

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=645714

I wouldnt have a clue as to where to start. If there were a COMPLETE HOW TO make a eeprom reader with detailed instructions with pic I would consider it but the ones I found are old and have no/ not enough pics to help me out or assume that the reader knows what the poster is on about. Figured Id buy one and googled that. Man there were a heap of different ones out there I wouldnt even know which one would work for the xbox1.

I think Ill try the hotswap again. If all else fails Ill just put it aside for a rainy day and try to chip it.

Hey Shambles, do you know of a decent - up to date guide on hotswapping? Or on how to build an eeprom reader?

Thanks folks.

well

http://www.ebay.co.u...D-/140521532676

sells the things here in the uk.

They are tiny things so should not cost much to send any where in the world.

Hotswap guides i really dont know..

all i can tell you really is there are 2 main methods

1
you put your modded files on a disk for xboxhdm
hotswap and tell xboxhdm to build the drive.

2.
you hotswap in to windows and the transfer the files to your hard disk using xplorer360..

Now for method 1.
SPPV has been making disks specifically for that.
these are all kinds of names But i think the latest one was
XBMC installer

The thing is he always makes a huge tutorial video to go along with them, AND is happy with hotswaps.

You may do well to google
"sppv xbmc installer"

and see what you find.

Good luck.

I did a new one a while back Shambles. Its AutoBuilder meets XBMC Installer and got all jacked on roids. Lots of new safety features like a recovery partition, and improved Shadow C security and a few other lil tweaks to the NKP xbe before compiling. It works as an XBOXHDM disc creator or USB gamesave creator (Uses a heavily modified AutoBuilder) or as a boot disc like XBMC Installer or extract and copy to HDD and it will run no edit no issue.

Also OP please tell us specificaly what mod you used easiest and best way for us to help you is to know what you used. As for Hotswap tuts I did a video one a few years ago. I used a 30GB HDD in the vid since I dont own any XBOXs with stock HDDs but its locked just like a stock 8GB and hotswaps just like a stock 8GB or any other locked HDD (that matches the XBOXs eeprom of course)

Totally grateful for your guys replies...

@ Shambles thanks for all the help. Have being trying the hotswap but now Im stuck with an error 9.

@ SPPV. Ive been trying to google where to download your cd that I read about at H  Q. Ive even tried downloading babylon from H   Q   but it keeps timing out while downloading so I gave up on it. Im REALLY glad youve responded cause now I reckon I can get it fixed now.

Ok to answer what you asked SPPV...

I used a softmod tutorial I downloaded from www.megaups.me. I dont know if this is allowed but heres a link...

http://megaups.me/details.php?id=52478 (if you need an invite pm me  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )

But before I did this I took my kernel and dashboard down if that helps. So I performed the softmod successfully and when I rebooted I got an error 13. Realising I needed an original game in the console to update my kernal dashboard to correct this but I left it for the morning thinking it should be fine. So when I finally got my game to put in the xbox 6-8 hrs later I then got an error 16.

So now trying a hotswap before I saw your post my xbox is now giving me an error 9.

Im stumped as to where now fellas....

About bloody time it worked  biggrin.gif . It was a human error on my behalf.

I managed to get it working by using one of SPPVs cds. Couldnt tell you of the top of my head and his hotswap tutorial video. Man that stuff works a treat. Now Im downloading Babylon to hopefully jack this b*tch up so I can insert a bigger drive an emus. Cheers Shambles and SPPV!

Please dont ask me how I did it, it was trial and error constantly all night. My error 9 disappeared when I plugged everything up then I continued with the tutorial and it all turned out right.

thanks.

Your timeout issues fall squarely on Mediafire. Been pretty crappy as of late. Im playing Babylon pretty close to the chest  so only distrib is via my Mediafire (the HQ download is just a Mediafire hotlink). I dont want Scene-War BS keping it from the masses, nor do I want sites trying to sell it. I would post it here as well but sadly XDK post rules preclude me from posting it mad.gif  The SRC is also posted (via HQ servers not Mediafire in accordance with NKP rules)

Glad one of my builds got you sorted out though. If you are interested in XBOX modding, specialy exploits and ease of use drop me a line. Babylon 1.1 is on the drawing board.
