Yes it is. However the type of ssd you are thinking of is probably the modern sata variety.  First to get the sata type to work you need a sata to ide adapter and only some adapters work(search up ide to sata on dealxtreme and look in the comments for stuff about xbox. Secondly if your xbox is not tsop flashed or chipped you need to have a way to lock the drive and most ssd drives I've seen can't do this as well as some adapters cause problems too.

There is however another way to make an xbox solid state which is to use compact flash cards and a compact flash to ide adapter, but again the same locking issue arises if your box isn't flashed or chipped.

Hmm, I have a Softmodded Console. Am I completely out of the loop since it isn't Flashed or Chipped?

Are you doing this for the cool factor or hoping to get more performance? Either way, I'm in support! If you have the ssd, sounds like a cool mod. Just curous

Both. lol (Evil Laugh) I don't have an SSD at the moment, but I like to do research on my ideas before I start a project.

You will definately have to have a chip installed (or TSOP mod) for this to work. Since the hdd has to be locked otherwise.  I ordered two ide to sata from amazon and they stated they would work in xbox...but neither did to my dismay.  This is a very interesting idea. however size's that I would actually want are way expensive....I would want a 320 minimum

Yeah, SSD HDD's are not really cheap. A sale is possible to find one at a decent price this time of year. So what is the best IDE-to-SATA adapter? I'm not sure, but I seen THIS and I believe it's worth trying. I'm still currently looking to upgrade my Softmodded console's HDD to atleast a 500GB HDD soon. I like THIS.

I think it would work just fine. I should have tried it before I threw my SSD in my pc. My guess is it will boot faster and copy/move files a little quicker.

I wouldn't get that adapter as it is to go the other way. Using an IDE drive and connecting to a SATA port. You want one to go the other way round.
Check out this one.
SYBA SD-ADA50016 SATA to IDE (IDE to SATA) Bi-Directional Adapter

The only problem is the dvd drive would be in the way for how they show it hooked up. You could use some pin headers like you use when adding a mod chip and plug the IDE port of the adapter into the Xbox IDE cable. That should work I think. And the adapter is cheaper than the other one.
