First, make sure the problem is not your hub/switch/router.  If that's not the problem, then YES, this will fix your problem!

I wanted to provide an update regarding Perplexer's services.  He continues to sell PHY chips.  He promptly shipped two to me after receiving my PayPal payment.  He was also courteous and quick to respond to questions.  (I suppose that veterans of this forum already knew this.)  Thanks, Perplexer.

Symptoms:
Upon booting my unmodded Xbox with no game inserted, the console displays a System 21 error.  When booting games, I could not connect to XBL.  (DHCP would timeout and static addresses would yield a message indicating that communication with the router could not be established.)  My Xbox NIC's green connection LED would illuminate, but the amber trasmit LED would never illuminate.

I'm hoping that replacing the PHY chip will resolve all that ails my Xbox...

Update: (see my previous post)

I replaced the PHY IC last night.  My Xbox can connect once again to XBL.   biggrin.gif

Thanks again to Perplexer for his friendly and prompt assistance.  I would recommend that folks PM him if in need for purchasing components and/or repair services.

this is probably a stupid question as i don't have time to read all 5 pages at the moments, but can you replace a 1.6 xbox nic with a 1.4 nic?

if so, how hard would it be?
do you still do nic repairs? how much?

thanks all  tongue.gif

Yes, not too hard if you are OK with a soldering iron... removing the old part without damaging the motherboard pads is probably the trickiest part.

I sell chips for $8/ ea including worldwide shipping.  Repairs are $30 plus return shipping.  PM if interested!

Perplexer,
I have an XBOX that suddenly the ethenet and network connection stopped working. I am unable to connect to XBOX live and have a network connection. It constantly says the cable isn't plugged in, however it is. I even tested the cable and connection with a computer and it works fine.
I am thinking the ethernet port or chip is burned out. Is that true? I have never opened up this XBOX or did any mods to it. It is all stock and not modified. What is your advice to this situation?
Thanks in advance for your reply,
Paul

Hey perplexer,

My router is xbox certified, ethernet cord xbox certified, and my internet (should) work 100% with Xbox (proven by my friend with same ISP), yet my Xbox ethernet just DOESN'T work!

I'm guessing it's this problem. I added you on AIM, hope to talk to you!

Hey Cat... I'm never on AIM actually  ohmy.gif

Check your Xbox on your friend's network.  If it doesn't work there either, then it's your PHY, and I'd be happy to fix it...

Cheers,
Plex
