Dead Ethernet?
« Reply #15 on: March 29, 2005, 01:33:00 PM »

This is was not expected!

Messured the 3.3V i read 3.32 so thats good. after replacing the IC the second time I noticed that the first time I powered the box on the ip was 10.0.0.35 in evox
after launching XBMC it was 10.0.38. Rebootet the box and it was 10.0.0.40 in evox!

This was mighty strange!

I have a OpenBSD box as a router and so one, I have configured this to stop giving away IP at 10.0.0.40, so next time i rebootet the ip was 0.0.0.0
The thing causing this is the XBOX MAC adress changing!
This is the logg from the OpenBSD:

/bsd arp info owerwritten for 10.0.0.35 by 00:50:f2:00:00:08 on rl1
/bsd arp info owerwritten for 10.0.0.38 by 00:50:f2:00:00:2e on rl1
/bsd arp info owerwritten for 10.0.0.40 by 00:50:f2:00:00:33 on rl1

Then I changed settings in XBMC to static ip and manually setings for gateway and dns. Now it stays on the net but still changes MAC all the time. BSD saying:

/bsd arp info owerwritten for 10.0.0.40 by 00:50:f2:00:00:12 on rl1
/bsd arp info owerwritten for 10.0.0.40 by 00:50:f2:00:00:18 on rl1
/bsd arp info owerwritten for 10.0.0.40 by 00:50:f2:00:00:36 on rl1
/bsd arp info owerwritten for 10.0.0.40 by 00:50:f2:00:00:16 on rl1
and so on
and so on

Whats happening?
Seems like it was a waste of an ic the second time i changed it, but the first time it was broken, because nor static ore dhcp worked...
Could it be something with the eeprom?

strange!

my xbox was doing this about six months ago, if i went to the xbmc status page i could see my mac change right in front of me.  i changed my bios ( a very old xecuter one) with a newer version, and it cleared up.    i dunno if it was just luck or not, but it worked for me smile.gif  good luck!

Forget my last post!

I get it the eeprom file is most  likely corrupt?
So do I need to buy a new file ore can I use a file from a different xbox as long as it's the same xbox version?

And thanks for helping  tongue.gif

These chips should be ttl and able to with stand up to 7 or 9 volts.
Does the chip have any schorching marks?

There are three things i would do.

The first is try to isolate the fault, is it only the one particular chip that is blowing?
and also can you be sure its blown.

Check motherboard for excess flux, bridged solder points or tracks, basically have a really good look at the motherboard top and bottom and check that there is no nasty shorts.

If all else pass's then change your psu, be sure to note which version of xbox you have and then check e-bay for new or second hand PSU's. Please make sure the psu has the right input voltage for your country.

Please ignor the above it was posted on the wrong page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say you reflashed the eeprom do you mean the bios on the mod or is there another one on the motherbaord?

I's the eeprom on the motherboard.
This is used to store the basic settings like pal/ntsc, fan speed, etc
the smatxx has a option to read the eeprom on first boot and store it in the flash on the smartxx modchip. And then restore it to the eeprom at later time.

There is other softwares that can do this, check eeprom tools on the main xbox-scene page.

do you think eeprom setting could be the fault on a executer 2.6 chip?  were you getting any link lights at all?  I have a dead nic and I have a TON of stuff i need offa the drive in it.

I also Have xecuter 2.6 and my nic port will not conect to my pc. I know all My settings are correct. I do not know if flashing the eeprom will help.
I know it containes the MAC address but that hasnt changed at all from when the NIC port was working.
I dont know if there is any other setting on the eeprom that control the nic port, but  I have decided that I have wasted to many late nights at trying to solve this problem so I am just going to buy a new XBOX 1.4 motherboard.
And anyway I dont see how you can flash your eeprom with an Xbox with a dead NIC port? blink.gif

yeah, i thought about going the new motherboard route, but I need all the info off of this hard drive and if I take it out and put it in another box for example, it will boot fine it see's all the partitions, but when I try to go into drives F: or G: it doesn't show anything there.  sad.gif   maybe I'll give a try at replacing the ICS.  I just wanted to make sure there wasn't another way before I did.

ok, any suggestions would be great!  I have a HD that was in a 1.3 box that has the ex 2.3 pro in it.  The nic died in it and I want to backup all my data, so I took the drive out and put it in a 1.6 with an ex 3.  boots fine, shows free space on the F: but no data.  and g: is giving err: 3.  all I want is to be able to back up my data!
