Lan Not Working
« on: November 30, 2011, 09:05:00 AM »

Just bought myself a "new" xbox, and just found that it won't see my network.

I tried connecting it to my router: no luck, tried to connect it to my PC: also no luck, and tried both again with a different cable(works just fine on my PC), again, nothing happens.
The LEDs on the LAN connector just don't light up.

Is there a way to fix this?

This is a long shot, but try cleaning the pins inside the LAN connector. I had the same issue once on an Xbox that I got from a friend. No matter what I tried, the LAN would not work. Keep in mind that this Xbox was painted. Turns out the guy that painted it never removed the mother board before hand and never masked off any of the ports so the pins inside the AVIP and LAN were painted. I spent hours with Q-tips and nail polish remover cleaning them pins. Even today, it still isn't perfect.

Just an idea.

I've tried to clean it twice already (with alcohol and Q-tips), it's no use.

The lan chip must be dead...

Can someone post a pic of the LAN chip on the 1.0 mobo, please?

I can get the chip from a dead mobo, but for that I need to know how the chip looks like.

It can be a pic from google with an indication, you don't need to take yours apart to take a picture.

The chip just to the right of the IDE connector. It is stamped "ICS".

It's not necessary, thanks. ^^

However I'd like to know if I can replace my LAN chip (1.0 mobo) with a LAN chip from a dead 1.6 mobo I have around.

Both look just like the same (both have "ICS" written on them), but the numbers are different.

Is it a universal chip for every xbox version?

That, I couldn't tell you. I usually get rid of any 1.6's as soon as I get them because I don't prefer them. As such, I don't know much about how the version 1.6 differs from previous versions, outside of the obvious stuff (no tsop, no ram upgrades, eeprom dumps are a pain, etc, etc.).

You'll have to try and find the data sheets for the two "ICS" chips and compare them, or maybe someone else who knows will chime in.

Well, what about other versions?

My friend said he have an ICS chip taken from a 1.1 mobo, do you belive it's gonna work with mine?
