Dash Doesn't Load.
« on: July 09, 2011, 11:45:00 PM »

Ok, this is weird.

I just used xboxhdm2.2 to upgrade to a new HDD. I downloaded a clean 5960 M$ Dash, and put it in the C Folder. After finally getting xbhdm 2.2 to install NDURE ,C folder,E folder,F folder and lock the harddrive successfully, I thought everything would work well.

Well here's the catch.

There's no xbox error codes.
No dash ever loads, It just stays at the xbox logo.
Yet, strangely enough, It plays every game I insert.

And I can't use the gamesave exploit for SC, because it always freezes when I select the save.

Somebody please suggest another program / tool.
I am beyond my breaking point.

And xbhdm v1.9 doesn't seem to be compatible with windows 7, which is a definite piss off.

It sounds like you have not properly added the softmoded/original dash board files to C: and E:
Make sure that your puting them in the right places in the right folders..
And make sure you use the Pal or Ntsc vesrion of the save for your game... (pal uk ntsk usa)

Honestly though.. If your using xboxhdm you should just find the soft moded dash files add them to c and E instead of the official dash files.

Maybe you should start the process again It dosent sound as though you are far off from getting it to work.

Thank you sir,
Gave me the inspiration to keep going and figure out the problem.

One question,
If I lock the harddrive with the eeprom, Should it boot from the xbox, no problem?

Because I have heard people saying " You need to pull the ide from the Disc Drive, get error 12, and then hook the HDD up."

Would that apply for me?

Yes, and yes. You seem to be implying that the two are mutually exclusive, but they aren't.

You dissconnect the yellow cable from the dvd player in your xbox so it error 12's
Whilst it has the error 12 on screen your hard disk is unlocked and your xbox wont try to re-lock it untill the xbox is restarted.
when you hotswap (take the hard disk out of the xbox when the xbox is on) you want to force the error 12 so you know the xbox is not trying to do anything to the hard disk whilst your using it..

Alright, I understand the concept.

Is there a "windows" way of transferring the files?
Could I unlock the hardrive with XBHDM, boot into windows, and edit the folders on the hardrive with xplorer360?

Because I'd like to see what's on there..
I somehow wonder how It can't boot the dash, when I seem to have all the right files in C:.

Once you have the eeprom that's the recommended method. Use xboxhdm to unlock the disk, then use xbrowser, or use xplorer360 beta 6 under windows to manipulate the disk contents.

Do I let the bios recognize the HDD?
Because even when I unlock the HDD with hdm,
Xplorer360 always says "Could not find a fatx drive to open".

Could I not just do this.

FTP into my other xbox with original HDD,
Copy it's C: drive and put it on my New HDD.

So then I know I have the right files?

Are you using Xplorer360 beta 6?

You can't generally use the files from another Xbox unless both Xboxes have the same kernel, and it's not quite that simple - you need to copy the fonts files in the right order.

The Kingroach NDURE 3.1 manual explains exactly how to install a softmod by copying files, either with a file manager or via FTP.

Yes, beta 6.

I had downloaded the M$ C: drive off the internet before,
And put it on my new HDD's C drive.
It didn't specify the kernel version,
so is this possibly why it won't load the dash?

So what I should do is...

Take the Cdrive backup from the original hardrive... And put that on the new drives C folder.
So then the kernel should match the machine.

Am I correct here?

And is it possible my dash wasn't new enough to perform a HDD upgrade?
Because I don't think I can upgrade my Dash now, considering I don't have one..
And my original hard drive broke.

It's not the MS Dash that has to have the right kernel version, it's the softmod file set. The 5960 MS Dash (the one you need to use) will work with all kernel versions.

You don't use your original disk files when you build a new hard drive, you use a clean MS Dash and a new, clean set of softmod files.

You choose your correct Kernel with Ndure 3.1, and it creates clean softmod files, right?
