F Partition Gone

To memory, the typical Linux installer will ask whether you want to do a "full" installation or not. If you say "yes" to that, it'll blow away your F/G partitions and dedicate 'em to to the installation.

There's no tool that'll restore the filesystem for you. Your videos/pictures/music/anything zipped can probably be recovered using PhotoRec (you'll need an additional drive to copy the data to), but any software you had on F will be unsalvageable. Anything you do to that partition between now and when you run PhotoRec will make it less likely that you'll recover your files.

Nope, the main feature of this installer is that it doesn't delete or partition anything. In fact it gave no dialogue, nor did it need permission to touch my partitions.

Didn't realize I couldnt post links. sry. Anyways, the link was to a windows 98 iso that runs it through xdsl.

I just found a person who answered someone with the same problem, but the person with the problem never replied. Here's what he said:

If you look at the evox.ini no partitions will be formatted

Your F: and G: partitions are still there, refresh your FTP client or use a simple xbox file manager like boxplorer

(You will have to format F: and G: if your new HDD supports it)

However, I think he misunderstood the question because the ftp fix is client side? And why would I need to format F and G if the partitions "weren't formatted"

It's not EvoX that prepares the drive for XDSL. It's the Linux installer. It's worth noting that I read the comments section on that page you linked and it's filled with people complaining about the same problem. I'm suspecting the guy who packaged it up didn't quite know what he was doing, given that you apparently weren't prompted on the matter.

But still, can you provide a bit more information on what you mean by "zapped"? Is the machine showing you the F partition at all? Which dashboard are you using? How did you get into this "system settings" thing you mentioned?

Also there was one person who said it zapped his xbox, yet there were 15 who hadn't complained. I was the person who commented twice at the bottom btw. The guy also said it killed his drive, but the drive isn't really dead. The data is there, it's just inaccessible.

Whatever the case, I'm afraid there's just no simple fix for this - no tools exist to repair an X-Box filesystem. Break out the data recovery software (eg PhotoRec) and hope for the best.

Yeah. Thats what I was thinking. Maybe unlock the drive and run partition table wizard. How about that guys solution that I brought up? I am kind of unsure of what he meant. It sounded like boxplorer can fix the problem?
