Xbox to USB and the also useful USB to Xbox* controller cables are cheap, Ordering online I've imported two of the former and one of the latter from the US to the UK at different times in the last couple of years. Each cost <$5 including shipping, all work fine and look decently made too.

Has to be easier than splicing cables.

* If buying a USB to Xbox controller adapter cable make sure it is for the original Xbox and not the XB360. Some sellers just list them as 'Xbox' cables but if they're for a XB360 they're not compatible.

you should be able to use this graphic to figure out which wire goes to which pin on the USB keyboard (provided you still have the USB plug end of the cable)

although i would suggest buying an adapter as well, then you can use multiple devices without having to splice more, and dont risk crossing a wire when colors dont match up
